Custom skin problem

Looking over your post that you sent the link to. It has much info and I appreciate it Unfortunately I am not a Skinner and no just about zero about skinning. So forgive me for my ignorance. I cant seem to figure out how to remove the "Bort numbers" that do not belong on the custom skin. I know it has something to do with the .LUA file. and I'm sure the info is in there somewhere but Could you elaborate a bit more or point me to the part on how to remove the numbers that were not intended to be there by the person who did the skinning.

Thank you

SkateZilla,

Here is a link to the livery for The Huff.

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/?arrFilter_pf%5Bfiletype%5D=6&arrFilter_pf%5Bgameversion%5D=137&arrFilter_pf%5Bfilelang%5D=14&arrFilter_pf%5Baircraft%5D=&arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&CREATED_BY=&sort_by_order=TIMESTAMP_X_DESC&set_filter=Filter&PAGEN_1=7

I keep getting an error message from the DCS site when I try and attach it. I've tried both 7 zip and just a ZIP file.

I really appreciate you taking the time to do this for me.

I will have to try and figure out how to do it myself too. I hope by studying how you did it by comparing the old livery with your fix I can figure it out. I use notepad ++ so I can view the description.lua files side by side.

If you need an e mail address to get it back to me I will do that. Just let me know.

Thanks again!

Updated description.lua zip file attached.

However it would be Bo_Nidle's responsibility to update his liveries, as they are out of date and UVW Maps have changed, so even w/ updated description file to remove borts you will notice other issues.

Skate,

You da man! I am amazed at how you put yourself out there for us "Skinning for Dummies" readers who STILL can't figure out all the in's and out's of what you artists do. A big tip of the hat to you for all your contributions . And if Crazie Eddie and Bo_Niddle and others are seeing this, thanks for their works as well. You skin artists might not know just how much your efforts are appreciated by the community. Thanks to all!

So can't ED just un-do what's messed up all the skins? they were fine just back in May '16

The instructions for removing these are too complex for me either and I have about 140 skins downloaded at this point.

This is the responsibility of ED or Belsimtek to fix since they wrecked all the skins with an incorrect nose number

A quick search shows US planes didn't have this and perhaps only Japan did.

The effect wrecks all the hard work that went into the skins for this plane.

Well to be fair, the F-86F has only just come out of beta after already being available for about two years. I, like a lot of others, jumped in with both feet even though the module was far from complete. Yes, it's frustrating when you have to go back and redo a lot of your work because of constant updates to the product, but I'm the one who couldn't wait to get started :) You'd think I would have learned from skinning the P-51D while it was still beta!

Having spent many, many hours now working with the F-86F I can honestly say it's the most accurate F-86 model I've ever seen in any flight sim. BST really did a great job on this aircraft and I can't wait for the F-5E now. Let's see if I learn anything, however ;)

NOSE BORTS are used by more than Japan,

it's not EDs Responsibility to maintain 3rd party / Unofficial Liveries.

When I Released my Unofficial Template I warned everyone that as the module is developed stuff will change.

It's up to the Author of the Livery to Update them.

Hard? it literally takes me 5 seconds to open the LUA, Paste the New Material Names, Highlight the Diffuse Texture name, copy, hit CTRL+H, Find and Replace Tab, past the diffuse old texture name and the name I want to replace it with, click replace all it replaces all instances, repeat for specular material names. done.

The BORTS arent the only thing that has changed, so the author will have to do some more cleaning up of the diffuse and specular textures.
