I ran into a problem today that took me some time to figure out.

 

When I tried to transmit, nothing happened. The green light in the overlay didn't light up and there was no transmit effect, although the audio test was working fine.

 

After quite some time and a few clean reinstalls of simple radio, I found that the reason for this error was that my router's firewall was blocking port 5015, wich SRS apears to be using.

I found this strange, as I was using the buddyspike server with the adress 5.189.162.17:5014 (so port 5014).

 

I notice that this is not a fault of simple radio, and most people won't need to open ports when not hosting a server. Just wanted to put this out there.

Since a while, SRS is using the port declared plus one above. So 5014 and 5015.

This is stated in the installation guide and in the changelog, IIRC.

Went to search for that and you are correct. It is mentioned on the Github page and the first post :doh:

But that's very odd for it to block an outgoing port! Good to know.

No, this is a "special case", since I have my router set to block all ports, except the ones that i allow to pass through. So it was just me being too stupid/lazy to read everything :music_whistling:

Ah gotcha! No worries :)

 

That seems less lazy though having to allow outgoing connections mine :D

Please give as much info as possible - aircraft, radio, which server you're connected too, number of clients etc :)

Thanks for info. Restart SRS and try again, if still no luck, try the debug version and send me the logs :)

Should do - press the intercom button on the joystick in-game with the mouse and see what happens. You can also try holding the Dcs hotkey for intercom which does the same and you'll see the button depress in cockpit

I don't know if I should address this here or for the viggen ... nevermind I'll try it here:

 

It was mentioned before but there was no change- the modulator switch is not working for the viggen.

So you are bound to use AM instead of being able to switch to FM.

 

Is this an issue of the viggen not switching the output to SRS or of SRS not reading the input properly?

I'm trying to use SimpleRadio but it invariably crashes on me when trying to connect, with the error "Problem initializing audio output." Here's a screenshot of the error :

 

When I click "Ok", SimpleRadio crashes and has to be restarted.

 

I tried with every output option, all four of them being named "VIA HD Audio (win10)" but it always crashes.

 

Is there a misconfiguration on my part ? Could it be linked to the fact that I don't have a microphone ?

Just looked into this - unfortunately I cant export the state of that switch (my old code is there but commented out) but I'll see if there is a workaround

I tried again by plugging in an old mic I found in a drawer and it worked without any issue. So it does seems like not having a mic plugged in could cause some issues.

 

I know it sounds stupid to use SimpleRadio without a mic, but at that moment I just wanted to hop into the BlueFlag server and still be able to hear the comms, without having to buy a mic first. Hopefully I was able to find an old (broken) one.

 

Edit : there isn't any issue related to sound input/output with my win10 installation so far. SimpleRadio seems to be the only software having problems.

Edit² : @Gliptal no, I was not using Voicemeter. No voice/sounds software except SimpleRadio.

 

Edit³ : I was taking a look at the source.

 

The exception I was encountering seems to be thrown in MainWindow.xaml.cs at line 745. The try/catch seems to fail because at the line 734, you call the method AudioManager::StartEncoding with Mic.SelectedIndex set to null (or whatever an undefined var could be in C#). I could be completely wrong, but it seems to me that the no-mic plugged case is not checked. Maybe stop the procedure and trigger a warning message when the audio input select is empty, prompting the user to plug a mic in order to be able to connect ?

 

Anyway I thing it should fail or exit gracefully when no mic is present. The biggest issue here is that the software was crashing (windows had to force-close it) when I clicked "ok" on the error dialog.
