Knock-Knock Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 In anticipation for the upcoming F-5E module, I came across these three very good videos about developing the F-5E into a reconnaissance aircraft, and found its an important element that is not yet featured in DCS. Ron Gibb, engineer on the F-5 project, reconnaissance in particular, going over the F-5E - 30 min [ame] [/ame] Ron Gibb again, a 60 min presentation of the RF-5 development. [ame] [/ame] Part two of the above, a 60 min presentation from Roy Martin, the test pilot in the RF-5 development. [ame] [/ame] How exactly it should/would/could work, I dont know. But something as 'simple' as adding the recon photo's to the mission briefing (for online). Getting out there, snapping photos of target area's, helping the strike aircrafts planning their attacks etc. Or head out and snap photos of player placed SAM's and so on. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |
Pitot Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) 1. Make a camera that works in F5 airplane 2. Dedicate a button to make a "screenshot" of what camera sees 3. Add the functionality to share those shots via kneeboard 4. It would be kind of arkade-ish in current DCS, but when we get the dynamic campaigns it could be awesome. Then you could include those in the kneeboard or briefing via in-game functionality. Ofc there are some problems (snapping 300 photos - how to select those to go into the next round etc. but I believe those are all solvable problems). Darkbrotherhood7 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 (edited) The F-14 had the TARPS pod IRL, so I hope to see it in the LNS F-14. :-) Reconnaissance missions would be very fun. Captain Orso Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Spell-Checking, don't leave home without it :D I know I'ld look like a 3rd grader, or something, if I didn't have spell-check running all the time yyyyyup! Fri13 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 1. Make a camera that works in F5 airplane 2. Dedicate a button to make a "screenshot" of what camera sees 3. Ofc there are some problems (snapping 300 photos - how to select those to go into the next round etc. but I believe those are all solvable problems). That would be my requirement. So you can't just snap them and instantly share to everyone (or others) but you need to land and then wait some minutes to get "film" developed (like 2-5 minutes). If aircraft crash or recon part gets damaged, then film is lost. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
ST0RM Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Use the downward looking sling cargo camera view from the Huey and as you pass over targets, have the ability to snap a pic. For the next "two-weeks", fly unarmed, very fast and make camera click sounds to yourself as you fly over your target.

Fri13 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I agree. Oh and of course the CAS pilots would get pictures to kneepad after landing and opening cockpit so crew could give you the photos for next mission/sortie. I would actually start liking to see a virtual briefing in hangar or next to aircrafts a la Top Gun. Or like old games had those, like M1 tank platoon. And there have the photos. And same time I think we need to came change the F10 map by default disallowing it and making it for CA module. And then give the pilots a "real map" that they need to fold etc. And try to find things like A-10C TAD looks. That would make recon photos far more useful as it would be the accurate version of positions etc. So before take off, mark rings with mouse on map where each photo was taken. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Pitot Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I see where you're getting at, but for some your post may look a bit confusing. But okay, the important thing is that most of us, so far, agree that it would be nice to have this feature in mind. Especially with dynamic campaign being planned in future. Angelthunder Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Yes,i've been saying this a couple of times in the wishlist fourms section.I always wanted to see if ED and other third parties would make some Reconnaissance Aircraft and make dynamic missions out of them.I would start with something like World War II recon planes first like the F-6 Mustang or F-5 Lightning. Then if ED ever expands the maps with EDGE to cover the globe, maybe we could eventually see a U-2 or SR-71 Blackbird.
Pitot Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 All in good time I guess :) Don't ask, here's the answer: 95% of my posts are edited because I have OCD.
