intermarer Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Hi all, I am wondering if anyone knows of a beginner friendly campaign? You may laugh at this, but I found even the SU-25T campaign way too hard. I am looking for something that maybe just makes you fly a couple of routes, shoot down unguarded targets, etc. but in a campaign setting. I just don't care much for the quick missions or making my own. Any module is fine, really.

You play as a UN Pilot in Georgia, fighting rebels with the first few missions not even having combat operations. And it's really immersive with a nice narrative. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

QuiGon Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 What aircraft are you interested in flying? He said "any module". Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
VAF [136] Striker Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 He said "any module". Doesn't hurt to ask though. A lot of people start out without really knowing what peaks their interest and then kind of settle on something specific. That's the only reason I was asking. BinaryMan Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Honestly the su25T campaign is really hard. I would go with the huey campaign.

I'd love to play something like that, without all out war balls to the wall each mission! I guess I'll get started on the Huey campaign! Any other suggestions are welcome. Doesn't have to be something that comes with the module, I can download too. Edit: oh and I really mean any module. I love both helo and planes.
VAF [136] Striker Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Another suggestion would be the Mi-8 campaign. It's mostly just a bunch of ferrying stuff around so it's not very hard. I've only done a half dozen missions so I'm not sure if it gets much harder but the beginning is very easy. It's good because you spend a lot of time just learning to fly the chopper. intermarer Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 hmm I know I said I was ok with any module, but... what is the second easiest campaign, that is a plane not a helo? :D
QuiGon Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 hmm I know I said I was ok with any module, but... what is the second easiest campaign, that is a plane not a helo? :D  I wonder what happened there? :D I just noticed, when I thought about it, that most fixed wing modules don't have a campaign yet (apart from the FC3 modules, but I can't say anything about them). - The MiG-21 campaign is fubar. It's by far the worst thing in this otherwise outstanding module. - The F-5 has no campaign (yet?). - The M2000 campaign is still in development. - The F-86 and MIG-15 don't have a campaign. There is a DLC campaign in the works though. - The WW2 modules only have "challenge campaigns". Only the P-51 has a DLC campaign ("High Stakes"), but I haven't tried it. - The A-10C campaign is pretty generic and boring. It had a different campaign with handcrafted missions in earlier versions, but it has been removed. There are a bunch of great DLC campaigns for it though. My favorite is "The Enemy Withing", but it rquires some skills and knowledge of the A-10s systems. The Red Flag campaign requires Nevada, which I haven't installed so far, so I can't tell how it is. It should be pretty good though, from what I've heard, but might be too demanding for a beginner. There is also a training campaign for it (see below). So, I guess the A-10C training campaign would be best suited for you, if you don't have a problem with it beeing a training campaign (I do, which is why I haven't tried it, but it should be pretty good, especially for beginners). See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2715334&postcount=20 This thread made me realize, that helos in DCS are much better supplied with (stock) campaigns than fixed wing aircraft. The reason for that is probably the current DCS environment (modern day georgia) which isn't suited for most of the fixed wing aircraft (F-86, MiG-15, Bf-109, Fw-190, P-51 and to some extent the F-5 and MiG-21). I hope I could help you with that :) Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
firmek Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I would suggest to start with Su-25T. Watch youtube tutorials (really great!), fly and re-fly training missions and than when you're comfortable with handling the aircraft, it's systems and employing weapons start the campaign. This should be good starting point into DCS (especially that it's free). Start with labels turned on and when you get comfortable with recognizing map topography and locating targets turn them off. You can also use F7 view to find out location of enemy units at the beginning. Some may say it's cheating but for a newcomer it really helps during the learning process. Not to criticize but if the campaign is too hard it may mean that you're doing something wrong. I had the same experience at the beginning until I've realized that I had to change my mindset to flying a sim. This includes things like not going to unknown areas, setting safe ingress and outgress patch, analyzing the map at the briefing, not overflying targets, avoiding flying behind the front lines, asking yourself if you really need to kill that AA to accomplish mission goals etc. F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all
NeilWillis Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Another suggestion might be the A-10C basic flight qualification campaign. Not as easy as it seems, but it is definitely one to get to grips with.
