hansangb Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I may have to find a solution to DisplayLink drivers not working with Rift. I shut off my Liliputs since I use VR now. But yesterday, while testing out the VR-Lens (will report on a separate thread) I had a quick A10 flight. On a lark, I positioned the MFDs near where they show up in the cockpit. Lind of like this: Wouldn't you know it? When i reached for the MFDs in the game, my hands were close to the real MFDs. I snuck a peek through the nose bridge and was able to hit the buttons w/o losing any SA. It was pretty fantastic, actually. So now, I'm going to see if I can get the Liliputs going again. Another reason why my building of the switchbox will help IMMENSELY with immersion. You can't beat physically touching switches, rockers etc. Also, I'll do some testing with PrecisionX or NVidia Inspector. I saw my GPU spike up into the high 90's. So I think overclocking will help. But I need to do some more testing to see what impact OC will have. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
cichlidfan Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I get the buttons being nice, in the right position, but I don't see why you are messing with getting the displays working, since you are in VR anyway. I have a set in a box that I might have to see if I can get a good location in my pit. SkateZilla Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 I did it that way at first, but due to constantly moving stuff on my desk, I just decided to put velcro on the back, and velcro them to my thighs of my pants, so I just have to reach down, and touch. Much like how I can type without looking at the keyboard, I can put my hand down and feel the buttons fine and press the OSB accurately and easily. Purg Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Agreed with it being pointless exporting the displays. You're just soaking up valuable GPU and frames on something you're not using. Though, very cool that you're able to position them so that they match the location in the cockpit. Taken a couple of months but my brain no longer freaks out when I move my arms and my in-game arms remain stationary.
DerekSpeare Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) You won't have success with Displaylink and Oculus. They are incompatible. This was a lesson I learned two years ago with V0.4 of the Oculus runtimes and the DK2. Do yourself a favor and kill Dirplaylink with fire. While I haven't tested it to confirm it personally, there is an alternate way to go about it, but you need new hardware. The Startech USB2DVIE3 USB2 to DVI could be a solution: http://www.ebay.com/itm/StarTech-Accessory-USB2DVIE3-USB-to-DVI-External-Video-Card-Multi-Monitor-/161938806568?hash=item25b44e1728:g:HEEAAOSw1DtXGO-k Of course, drivers are needed, but they are Startech's and not Displaylink: https://www.startech.com/AV/USB-Video-Adapters/USB-to-DVI-Multi-Monitor-Adapter~USB2DVIE3#dnlds Good luck! EDIT: So not to derail the thread, I have also written Oculus and they believe that what I'm suggesting may not work, but I'll leave this here for posterity. hansangb Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 The reason for the MFDs with screen is that it helps when you're peeking through the nose bridge. It's just easier (well, OK, cooler" when you see the display with the MFDs! :) Derek, I think the above won't work with Liliputs, but will with regular monitors. The other options is to buy cheap small LCDs with VGA input and replace the Liliputs. What's a few more $$$s! :) hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Mt5_Roie Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 So I think that's what killed my Rift on my main hard drive. I ended up installed an OS on a second hard drive and doing my oculus stuff from there. So the question is - how did you kill your displaylink drivers? I removed what I thought was the drivers in control panel->remove applications, but that didn't seem to do it. So hence installing a fresh OS on a secondary drive.
