This is possible if you export the Shkval viewport to a position on any monitor and then use Fastone Capture (with this you can capture a user defined area of the screen) to save the video.

Example...

That's awesome, thank you for the tip. I will have to start recording some videos now!

two-and-a-half hours later I start getting the hang with this ABRIS.... ( wife & kids out )

It doesnt seem to forget the spots I marked/created despite I deleted them and the routes associated to it ( at least I think I deleted them ) but I can pull them up thru some menue and just hit "TO" and ABRIS will get me there....tons of info and I think I need another dozen hours to memorize what I found out. This thing is very deep indeed.

I need to play with it a lot more and then I may ask some questions, right now I am more then overwhelmed and disorientated ;)

You can Load, Unload, Revise, and Save different "ROUTES". This would be my first video tutorial on how to accomplish this, so hopefully it is helpful.

I seem to have mixed a few different things up as one and your video is helpful in that it doesnt do about a dozens things I tried working with routes, completly wrong approach..LoL

Hope to find another 2-4h tomorrow to dig into again, understand, sort and remember.

Once that is done I need to deploy that in missions, a thing I actually never needed but BF is different than what I flew before.

Scanning for Air Threats.

I wanted to make a video on how to scan for enemy air threats using various systems in the KA50. No matter which multiplayer server it always seems to be a constant issue, Fighter pilots generally think it's an easy kill when it comes to Helis. More times than not when I shoot an aircraft down, I'm called some type of hack or cheat. But that's a topic for another day!

It is possible to spot jets at 40-50km out, IF you know what to look for and use the proper scanning technique. I use the ABRIS to plan possible enemy routes. The Shkval scan mode to search visually within those threat routes. And just looking out the window also helps!

My very first "guns" kill on a Jet was last night, and perhaps by dumb luck. I recieved a Laser warning from my 12 o'clock, I was in a city so I popped up to take a look. There right in front of my face was a jet nose hot at about 4km out. Selected HMS and guns and sprayed the hell out of the air, and killed him. So the point of the story is don't let any of your systems go unchecked, even your LWS can be an indicator of trouble.

So here is an example of how to setup your KA50 for air engagements, and how to scan for air threats. It is by no means an easy task, but like with anything practice makes it easier. I also made the video to show that there is nothing magical going on in my cockpit when I spot air threats. I do normally run my Shkval and ABRIS on seperate monitors, which makes it somewhat easier. But for this I just used the plain old cockpit to show it is possible.

Intriguing! Do you find that the SA loss from watching the monitor is usually offset by the greater distance of detection? How often do threats come in from off-axis?

I only zoomed in on the Shkval for the purposes of the video, basically to show what would show up as a tiny dot. Usually I am glancing back and forth constantly between the Shkval and out the front window. Other than this video my Shkval is on a separate monitor, which is easier for me to do.

You want to spot them as far out as possible, considering they have radar and can spot you well beyond visual range. There has only been a handful of situations where they will fire radar missiles at me. Heaters and guns work to my advantage, because they need to come closer.

As far as off-axis I would say 75% of the time they end up this way. Because I have either come to a hover or landed once I have spotted them. If they don't see me and continue moving, I prefer that so I am able to continue on without making myself known. Many times in BlueFlag I have just let them fly over head, and then call it in to the CAP team. I prefer taking out ground targets, but there are just scenarios when it isn't possible. If they already know you're in the area, it's kill or be killed...

Instrument Navigation/Landing in KA50

I put together a video of a combination of things. I chopped up the video, because I seriously doubt you want to watch a 45 minute flight in nothing but fog. I highlted the use of different systems to navigate with and exp-lanations along the way. Some of the systems include; HSI, ADI, ABRIS HSI page, Desired Track and its detailed use, NDBs & ARK22, Flight Director and its visual cues on the HUD. Although this may not be specifically used in BlueFlag events, unless it's crappy weather or some night operations. It does give a general overview of how to navigate with nothing but your instruments.

I wanted to add some explanation of the ABRIS VNAV function, but I chose to leave it out to explain better in a future video. Just note that the waypoints were inputted thru Mission Editor, so some displays may differ when you enter them manually. Especially thru the PVI, there is no way to enter Ground Speed or Altitude for each waypoint thru the PVI.

Again sorry about the "chopped up" video, but hopefully some will get a better understanding of instrument flying with the KA50. Some of this is also useful in planning attack routes, especially at night or in low visibility. Or even if you have a human JTAC/FAC giving you specific headings to attack from. I've always been a fan of flying the KA50 in the worst weather possible, so when it's great weather it makes it that much easier!

Unfortunatley no.

Actually, you can!

I do this on the 104th server all the time. They have the same missions so I made up my own routes and drew many lines/obstacles on my ABRIS to remember where some well hidden targets are!

Although you can save route plans into the ABRIS system RAM through the PLAN sub-mode pages, you can also save a route plan into the ABRIS permanent database (i.e. your hard drive). If you do so, you will have the ability to load it the next time you fly the same mission. To do so:

1. Select the MENU operating mode and press the CTRL FSK button.

2. Press the SETUP FSK button. This will display a pop-up menu. Using the FSK buttons or cursor manipulator control, select the DTB (DATABASE) option and press the SETUP FSK button again.

3. Press the SAVE FSK button and this will box NAVIGATION DATA in the ONBOARD STORAGE section.

4. Press the SAVE FSK button again and this will save the route plan in the navigation database.

5. Move the cursor to ROUTES and press the SAVE FSK button. This will save all the flight plan data.

6. Finally, once everything is saved, press the MENU FSK button to go back to MENU operating page.

Haven't got the chance to. I was your Mi-8 girl the whole time! I don't think it wont work though, why wouldn't it?

You did all the heavy work, I was merely your escort. I give transport Helis mad respect in BlueFlag, I was horrible at it myself. I'm not sure if it would work with the number of FARPs, different slots, and ever changing mission. But I guess in theory it should, I've never tried it in multiplayer but great feedback if it works! You earned your +1

Thank you, it's always great to fly with you. I did do some testing with this theory in multiplayer. I tried once with staying on the same team in 104th, then switching sides on 104th, and then switching servers all together trying it and then coming back to 104th.

-If you stay same side and same FARP it does store the data.

-If you switch sides on the same server it will not save the data. Even after switching back.

-If you leave the server and go to another server it will not transfer over.

-If you come back to the original server the data was not stored.

It did save the ADDITIONAL.lua under ABRIS/DATABASE in the .miz file, so that's pretty interesting.

Is this the same outcome you have experienced? I'm pretty sure it is only good for one instance, as long as you dont leave the server. then there is a new .trk file created.

... Works only after server's restart. It has to be the same mission too, that's for sure. Switching servers and/or sides will simply cause some data overwriting - "temporary memory". On BlueFlag, we always have the restart every 3 hours without saving additional units like MANPADs/KUB's and/or destroyed units, so that shouldn't cause any data overwriting and as such it should work! One thing that might screw this up is the capturing of bases/FARP's. This one IS saved after restart as we know although it might be rather included in the scripting files than the mission editor file itself and thus it should work as far as I understand. We've got to test the latter.

Quick guide for VNAV

After putting up a video for instrument navigation, this goes along with navigating in low visibility, and also used for airport operations. VNAV does not transfer any data to any of your guages other than inside ABRIS. But it is a good tool used for route planning. Most people generally dont want to bother with it, but if you do this shows you the basics of its operation.

Also in the video I talk about airdrome charts, you can google DCS airdrome charts and download the lot of them. Also a handy tool to have navigating around airfields and imersing yourself into DCS.

Entering a Course into PVI-800

A quick video on how to set your waypoints as a "course" in the PVI-800. The PVI lacks common sense, and normally you would think it would follow your waypoints in order as they were entered(like the ABRIS). But it does not, and you must tell it in which order you would like to fly the current waypoints. These steps are very simple to do, and requires only seconds to accomplish. You will not need to do this with "pre-planned" waypoints thru the mission editor. However if you manually enter them, such as in BlueFlag you will need to tell the PVI the order.
