upyr1 Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 hi, A while ago I was building an a-10 mission where the goal was to hunt down a mserch the thing sat there not firing ading a radar didn't help the safist place in the Crimea was in the truck convoy the smerch was supposed to be hitting then chaged to a fixed target no luck. then made it an SAU and it blasted the targets. so are the Smerches crew by pacifist or is there any trick to get them to fire?
Corsair7662 Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 they dont attack you, they shoot long range rockets at ships and ground targets like 20 miles away.
upyr1 Posted October 1, 2006 Author Posted October 1, 2006 I understand the concept of a MLRS, They were supposed to be shooting at a Truck convy not me. the refernce to the radar is some times if a target is beyond line of site EW radars and AWACS result in a unit firing
Guest IguanaKing Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Not sure...maybe they ARE hippies and think that vehicle they are driving is meant to study Smerch, a weather phenomenon that rarely occurs in Russia. Maybe they should be in a Katyusha instead, so their grandmother Katya, can kick some a**. :D
Weta43 Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 They have to be aligned correctly and they have both a minimum & maximum distance that they'll attack at. They need to have the target at about 45 degrees off their nose before they'll fire. Cheers.
tflash Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Yes indeed, distance is critical, as well as line of sight. I uploaded some grad/smerch missions at Lockonfiles, you might want to look at those. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I know the common wisdom is that the target can't be directly ahead but I've never found this to be true: These are pointing directly at the target and firing directly over the cab (V1.12a). Here's the mission: SMERCH ATTACK Upyr1, did you designate that column as a target? Also, as tflash and Weta43 note, target range, etc come into play as well. Force_Feedback Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Damn stoned Smerch crews, it's like a Cypress Hill concert over there. Lol, I discovered weed has a very strong placebo effect on me, even when I think about it my mind gets all unfocused, and I have trouble concentrating :P So imagine how the mellow Smerch drivers feel after all that smoke. You're suggesting the Smerch is fuelled by Marijuana resin?!? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

Rich Yes I did either had to be angle or line of sight issues
Trident Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 You're suggesting the Smerch is fuelled by Marijuana resin?!? Na, not as fuel. But it might make a good binder :D
