Hmmm, well I cheated by looking at the Flaming Cliffs manual, but is it an R-27R/ER? Certainly looks like it other than the rear fins, which appear delta-shaped while the manual shows more clipped-delta-shaped.

But that WOULD be interesting if a MRM could be carried by the Su-39, problem is, aren't they radar-guided? How would the -39 target it?

The Su-39(Su-25TM) is a further development of the Su-25T that involves the addition of the Kopyo-25 radar pod.

Apart from the R-27R and R-77 the aircraft in the photo is also displayed with the Kh-35 anti-ship missile - also radar guided :) .

Cheers,

Such a big missile on flying bus makes as much sense as straping an AIM-54 Phoenix on an A-10 :)

“The Su-25TM (Su-39) can carry from two to four anti-ship missile. Thus a flight of Su-25TM (Su39) could represent a real threat to a tactical group of surface vessels and attack a destroyer (displacing around 8 000 tonnes) without entering the lethal zone of the ship’s air defense guns.”

Now, Pilotasso, what was the point you tried to make?

Heh...but a big radar and a long-range missile makes more sense on an aircraft that wouldn't have as much of an energy advantage in a knife fight. Mounting an AIM-54 or two on an A-10 actually kinda makes sense, Pilotasso...heh...IF we are just talking pure sensor and BVR capability. But, we'd have to hang a pod under a wing for the AWG-9. Still seems like a good idea though, as long as its only going to be used for long-range BVR and no VID is required by ROE.

Ummm...as can ANY turbine-engined aircraft. Not sure where the quote came from, but, contrary to popular belief, this is not a capability exclusive to the Su-25. :smilewink:

Due to the fuel shortage in Ex-Soviet countries, it was. So, the only jet that was operational with diesel in its fuel tanks is the su-25. Besides, any F-16/18/22/15/14/117 would probably have turbine surges, flame-outs because the fuel system can't handle it, or fadec doesn't know what to do. Most probably some computer crash though.

About diesel, have you actually smelled how jet exhause smells? If you did you wouldn't be all 'only su-25 CAN use fuel', noo, you will say things like: 'only the su-25 uses diesel' (due to a lack of kerosine). Even if you have no idea what oil refinement works, you should be able to draw conclusions based on the smell :p

I think he was talking about Air to Air missiles, not anti-ship missiles...

Somewhat astonished, I read: "The high aircraft maneuverability enables it at low and average altitudes and speeds to rotate "on its tail" and launch a second attack almost without visual loss of contact with an air and surface target, especially in limited space over the target- in hard accessible forest and mountainous areas, when the use of other strike systems is virtually impossible."

How does this match the ... "manoevrability" of the Su-25T in Lockon FC?

Or is a falling brick considered to be "manoevrable"?

In another interview I read on the standard Su-25, it was described by an exchange pilot as "crisp, sharp manoevring, good handling and very easy to fly". I guess inertia modelling in Lockon FC went awry?

He was talking about "Such a big missile ..". AA missile was for weight analogy.

No, I don't smell jet exhaust every day while I'm out on the flight-line fixing airplanes and helicopters. :smilewink: A turbine engine will pretty much run on any combustible liquid you feed it. Its just a question of how long it will run before needing repairs. Now, the Su-25, I know, has a few extras in its fuel system to make it less harmful to the engine. I was just addressing the popular myth that it is the only one that can run on it. Maybe the statement should be qualified to say "It is the only one that can do it for extended periods." A statement like that...I'd go along with. :D

You getting mad amounts of snow up there in Denver, IK?

Hell yes, dude! We've got almost 18 inches on the ground here at KAPA, and its still coming down like crazy.

My stick measures something like 8 inches, never got my ex-gf to measure it though.

It also has X-mas lights and Saitek EVO written on it, and it's made out of carbon plastic, like the Space Shuttle :p
