Emilio_Ger Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Hello everybody, my DCS multiplayer freezes from time to time, the simulation freezes for 5 seconds and then it continues normally. My framerate is allways above 60 and I have a decent rig(GTX 1060, I5 4760K, 16GB RAM and 2TB HDD) This freezing only occurs in multiplayer and is really gamebreaking. And I can`t really recognize some sort of a pattern, it happens on the ground, during take off or in the air. In addition to that it is irregular, sometimes once in 30 minutes, sometimes more often. I hope that maybe somebody can help.
TheThumper Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 To me that sounds like a network issue. Have you checked the ping times for the servers you are connecting to? Lower is better. Another idea, if you open a command window on your PC you can type "ping <IP Address Here> -t" and it will continually ping that address. I just tried that with one of the multiplayer server addresses in DCS but it would not respond but there is probably a way to do that (sorry just not sure what is stopping it right now). Just to test things on your end (your ISP) you could try the above command with any URL. In the past I would continually ping abc.com "ping abc.com -t" while playing to find packets dropped by my ISP. If you have experienced this problem on different multiplayer servers, then might be something with your ISP and the suggestion above might help to prove/show that to you and something to goto your ISP with. ~Thump. Emilio_Ger Posted March 12, 2017 Author Posted March 12, 2017 My ping is on the 104th at round about 130. My download speed is at 50mbps and upload at 10mbps
TheThumper Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Did you give the command I recommended above a try? If you get that going (it will ping in the background continuously) and load up your favorite MP Server (104th) the next time you get disconnected you can 'Alt-Tab' over to the command prompt and see if you connection ever dropped. If it does then you have an issue on your end to resolve, if not, then you are back to square 1. These are just things I have done in the past when troubleshooting my own connection as I have had ISP troubles (switched providers because of it). Hopefully others can chime in here as well and lend a hand with their solutions. I know this doesn't help, but I log in to the 104th quite often without any trouble. Good Luck! ~Thump. JG14_Smil Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Connection is fine... 30ms here. 1.5 DCS pauses and has surges constantly, last two updates really made it bad. In fact, I would go back to flying mostly NTTR as I was before I lost the use of my L-39. It felt like glass compared to 1.5. All is not well in the DCS World. Just sayin'...
Emilio_Ger Posted March 12, 2017 Author Posted March 12, 2017 Yes, I will try the command out next time I join a server. But looks like I`m not the only one with this issue
TheThumper Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Fair point, I have seen 1/4 second lags while playing MP as well, just not 5 seconds like you reported. The small hiccups I have seen are distracting, but I have not experienced the big lags you are talking about. While I will always welcome improvements, I am content with my experience. I wish you the best of luck! ~Thump. Computer Specs: i7-6700K@4.00GHz, 32GB, 850 EVO 1TB, GTX 1080 Ti, Samsung Odyssey VR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RyboPops Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 (edited) I have experienced the same MP freezes in NTTR as well. I did some troubleshooting with a friend last night and discovered that during the freeze the aircraft still responds to any control inputs which leads me to believe that it's not necessarily a network issue. I think the 2TB HDD is the clue here, i too have an old 500gb HDD and the stutter and freezes can be so bad that i even timeout on my connection and get kicked back to the MP lobby, the solution is an SSD.
Emilio_Ger Posted March 12, 2017 Author Posted March 12, 2017 Yeah I checked my connection, it is alway perfect even during the stutters, so I guess it is a hardware problem
RyboPops Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I think the 2TB HDD is the clue here, i too have an old 500gb HDD and the stutter and freezes can be so bad that i even timeout on my connection and get kicked back to the MP lobby, the solution is an SSD. Intriguing. I also have DCS World 2 on a 2TB HDD. Error checking shows no errors and I defrag it once a week. However, DCS World 1.5 is on the same HDD with DCS World 2 and I have no freezing issues in 1.5. Perhaps it's just that the textural demand is greater in NTTR than Caucasus?
Emilio_Ger Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 I just ordered a SSD, going to report wether the freezes and stuttering are gone after installing OS and DCS on the new harddrive.
RyboPops Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Please report back here with results, seems like it's a likely culprit. If you get improvement I'll probably do the same.
Decibel dB Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Same problem with a SSD and it's only on multiplayer and kinda new, some are long enough to make you crash if you're on the deck
RyboPops Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Well that's a damn shame, I need an excuse to buy another SSD lol
Emilio_Ger Posted March 16, 2017 Author Posted March 16, 2017 Well, I got your excuse, the stutters are gone for me. I just spend 1h 30min on the Open Conflict server, and it was generally smoother, without any stutters nor freezes at all.
Winston 60 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Stutters, pauses and jerks were introduced into open beta 1.5.6 and were then promptly carried over to the stable release version 1.5.6. Rolling back to 1.5.5 removes the stutters, pauses and jerks. Reinstalling 1.5.6 open beta or the stable release 1.5.6 and you get the stutters, pauses and jerks again. itsukarine Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 This happens to me whenever someone joins and occasionally someone leaves a server. It takes even longer to come back from the freeze if I was in the middle of a maneuver and I almost always end up in the ground if I'm near it. I didn't have this issue until a few updates ago as well and my PC is even better than it once was. I don't think buying an SSD should be a reasonable answer to this issue. That's just more money down the drain for almost nothing.

Do you guys check your memory usage during mp? Just wondering.
Devrim Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Yes. This is the thread in my mind. My system is in my sign but, I see too much stutters, pauses in MP. It's something like my computer hardly loads something. It's like some materials are loaded and applied very late, with delay or something. Almost no CPU usage. I don't understand. Can't DCS use system sources efficient? Valinor Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Sadly it's something we have seen since some time in multiplayer :( I agree they need to focus on it now.
TheConqueror Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Same problem here :/ ... I pay money for F-18 but i can't fly in multiplayer. Because initially frozen :(

Well, some still use flintstones to light a fire :music_whistling: If you dont have an SSD for DCS you will have very limited chances to enjoy it, regardless of any other component in your rig, hands down !
