Fighters Strafing Aircraft On Ground

Anyone found a smart way to stop AI fighters with a Search Then Engage task to strafe aircraft on the ground? Limiting the engagement distance is not an option, as this is about escorts for strike packages that will lead them to the enemy airbase eventually.

Since AWACS in DCS apparently detects parked aircraft on the ground, an F-15C with a Search Then Engage task will immediately after take off head to the enemy airbase in an attempt to strafe them!

I appreciate that ground attack aircraft can attack (strafe, bomb) parked aircraft if set up with the appropriate Search Then Engage task. I also see that there are situations where you want to have fighters strafe aircraft on the ground, such as in WWII. But modern fighters, abandoning their route, flying across half the map and attempting to strafe parked aircraft cued by AWACS is quite ridiculous.

Hmm. I noticed in the editor you can restrict a2g/a2a attacks under "set options"if it's an option, maybe holding a2g would do it, if it's available..

Perhaps the airplanes on the ground are still treated as airplanes, hence why they're attacked and the options don't work.

Was it always like this or it's a recent thing?

I suspect so too. I first noticed this some months ago but was too busy to give it a thorough check (and it didn't affect my F-5E campaign due to positioning of the targets). Now I am trying to do something with the F-15C and this problem is highly disruptive. I am surprised this didn't come up before.

This is still a problem and a mission breaker. AI fighters with Search and Engage tasks suicidally head to airbases within their engagement distance and strafe uncontrolled aircraft on the ground*. Is this acknowledged by ED (or shall I bother to open another report in the AI bugs subsection)? It is absolutely silly to watch F-14 and F-15 throw themselves against airbases until everyone is dead.

*and hitting the ground while doing so half of the time, but that is yet another AI issue...

You could make the aircraft invisible until they takeoff

The thing is, I want uncontrolled aircraft on the ground to be targeted by AI. But by specifically tasked strikes with suitable weapons and tactics. I don't want the escort fighters of such strikes to go down and do strafing runs.

I will probably just have to remove all gun ammo for fighter escorts. It's not a pretty solution but better than the AI committing mass suicide over airbases.
