ex81 Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Hi, I´d like to record some voice overs for my SPM. Simple question: Which Apps do you use to create realistic sound ? (Windows or Mac, does not matter) What goes up, must come down ! Intel Core i7-8700, 32 GB-RAM, Nvidia GTX 1060, 6 GB GDDR5, 1TB HDD, 1000 GB 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSD, Windows 10/64, A10-C, VKB Gunfighter IV Ultimate, Persian Golf, F/A-18 Hornet, Tankkiller
shagrat Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Audacity. It is Open source and has a lot of editing functions, that come in handy to produce radio effects, add background noise etc. You will find lots of guides on the web how to do radio FX or voiceover in general. ex81 Posted April 4, 2017 Author Posted April 4, 2017 Yep, I gave it a try several times. One problem is, it only saves in it`s own file format. And exporting as .wav did not seem logical to me. Perhaps you can discribe this step to me? Thank you What goes up, must come down ! feefifofum Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Here's a nice tutorital on how to specifically make voiceovers for DCS by Ranger79: THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Johnny Dioxin Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Done quite a bit of voice acting for a couple of devs and I always use Audacity - and save in ogg format (also, when saving, open the options dialog and increase the quality slider). I've used many different headsets and there is a very big difference between each of them, and soundcards, too. Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

PicksKing Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 (edited) A hint regarding a realistic sound in case you don't have experience with that: In some recording applications have no or only low quality presets which means that you will need to do this with an equalizer on your own to make it sound realistic. In radio transmissions are no low frequencies and the mid and high frequencies are overdriven and distorted. So take out the bass much as possible and amplify the "mids" and everything above (around 1000Hz and higher) until you hear the typical buzzing and shrilling (+10db, maybe more, this depends on output level of the raw file). The equalizer setting could look like the example in the attached screenshot. Give it a try and if you find a good setting, dont forget to save it. DarkFire Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 Another +1 for Audacity. Relatively easy to use and powerful enough for everything except the most esoteric audio processing. It's more than good enough to record audio for missions and to mix voice overs with sound effects etc. System Spec: Cooler Master Cosmos C700P Black Edition case. | AMD 5950X CPU | MSI RTX-3090 GPU | 32GB HyperX Predator PC4000 RAM | | TM Warthog stick & throttle | TrackIR 5 | Samsung 980 Pro NVMe 4 SSD 1TB (boot) | Samsung 870 QVO SSD 4TB (games) | Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Personal wish list: DCS: Su-27SM & DCS: Avro Vulcan.
ex81 Posted April 5, 2017 Author Posted April 5, 2017 Thanx to all you guys. This is really a lot of helpful hints. Think I must stop flying for a day or two to make myself familiar with all that. :book: What goes up, must come down !
