Ok I finally got it..well the german version anyway :smilewink: but theres an English language patch that works fine..so i thought i'd post some screen's..

I'm not sure I only dl'd the game yesterday and my first couple of flight's i crashed..i don't think its all that..but my gpu supports HD gaming and the graphics look awesome.

Yea it's a bit of a system hogger but after having LOFC i'm quite used to it :music_whistling::D

My system is old now but i have most settings on high..but if you got one those Core 2 Duo's with the bigger cache's ect i'm sure it'll run fine..i'll be upgrading just for AAS..been waiting for a good looking Infantry sim for ages ;)

TBH I thought the whole game was just buggy. The flight model is a joke, even worse than BF2's (that's saying something.) A lot of people are complaining about the terrible missions, terrible AI, buggy gameplay. It honestly is still in early beta. I was extremely disappointed. Here's a list of ridiculous bugs they should have fixed (they are so obvious they knew they were there when releasing the game!!). My advice is just to wait for US release/reviews. Most German mags have given it around ~75%. Some others, below 60%.

Remember the basic code is almost 10 years old?

 

Of course the flight-modell is very much simplified. More simple than in Bf2? No. But then, you have to take into consideration, that flying in BF2 is not hard because of the better flight-modelling, but because of the completely disregarded laws of physics. In BF2, for example, you cannot maneuver when you don't attach full collective, the same way you turn the sharpest with afterburners on and at full speed.

 

So of course it is harder to fly in BF2 in some regards but that does not mean it's more real ;)

i will definitely be waiting for the UK release, as soon as i read that dood was making a english audio patch i thought "whats the point" impatience is reward with un-finished crap title.

 

All ive heard is horror stories about the FPS (on high spec PC's) trackIR head movement being un-natural and flight model being very poor.

 

I will reserve my personal judgement until i get the UK release.

I love how those type of games make all of the fixed wing jets go Mach 2 straight off the ground. You fly around the map at stupidly fast speeds and really cant set up any tangible attack run. My thoughts.

Keep in mind that neither ArmaA nor BF2 are flightsimulations. Basically these are infantry-games.

I`m sure that a lot of gamer want a flight/tank/infantry-sim in one sim/game.

The idea of Microprose to combine M1TankPlatoon2 with Gunship! for MP was great and very promising... It is a pity that from it nothing has become.

Rainbow Six was good but thats old now and Vegas looks like its following Lockdown a little too much so if ArmA is crap then it looks like I'll be back playing AA for my FPS kicks.. :noexpression:

There are not much server online. I have played yet these 3 modi:

- Playing Koop sucks sometimes because of the AI(can see and shot trough walls).

- Teammodus is only suggestive if all fight for the objective in TEAMS. So its better you play with some friends.

- Deathmatch(anyone kills anyone), hmmm....for me useless.

Got a "special" copy and played for a few hours so far, really enjoying it !

 

I will definitely be buying the UK release but im not jumping the gun to buy a Ger/Czech patched/voice hacked version BIG waste of money, so all those who have done that and are moaning about the quality...serves you right for having no patience :P:D

 

hay sleek meet you on the DC TS for a blackhawk ride :), starforce protection is a joke they have cracked that already !

I've got it - and FPS is about 10-12, I get 40 FPS with FEAR maxed out, which shows that ArmA is just a Beta released to generate some cash for BI, which IMO is OK, they've got a community, and it can help them out by buying it.

 

ArmA is not crap - it is a WIP Beta release for the (eager to try) public.

 

I've been having a lot of fun with it. I agree with you Thomas about the WIP beta release feel, really OFP was a WIP for a long time, art is never finished only abandoned.

 

The big frame rate killer is all the post effects, looks great, not needed. My FPS is quite smooth as a result. The helicopter controls are just lame but that's a BI thing, they never were nor do I suspect they ever will be decent. That's not why you play this though.

 

Will be buying more boxed units when available in the UK for the lan sessions. Hopefully the helicopter controls will have been improved by then (the eternal optimist). But it's not even speck on a speck compared to a certain Kamov sim :D
