mporlier Posted May 23, 2017 Posted May 23, 2017 Is it normal that the radio compass isn't properly set at the beginning of some missions? It's now part of my startup procedure, after autostart ;-), to check and set it.
shagrat Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 Yes, you have to set it. ...or wait 20-30 min for, the radio compass to auto-align. ;) Pay attention to the upper right corner. There is a O and + symbol, if both are half visible the radio compass is aligned. When doing hard turns, drifting and wild maneuvers you can see the gyro fighting to keep the radio compass aligned. I mean O is the indication that its correct afaik. what changed? AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
Razor18 Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) Nope. Half of the circle and half of the + sign in the small windows means adjusted. Compare to the magnetic then... also, see DCS Huey manual page 53 for the adjusted position in the little window. Edited May 26, 2017 by Razor18
shagrat Posted May 26, 2017 Posted May 26, 2017 you must be joking right? I mean O is the indication that its correct afaik. what changed? Nothing, both indicators the disc 'O' and the '+' show the deviation/drift. Like in the real life Huey alignment is indicated by half the 'O' showing and half the '+'... Of course you need to check vs. the backup compass, as the inverted alignment (180° opposite) also shows 'O' and '+'. :) Just align the radio compass as usual to the magnetic compass and watch the indicator. Now go and fly at some 80-90kts and make a sharp 180° turn and watch the indicator. If you drift sideways the drift is simulated on the radio compass, yet not as easily to recognize. That is why you want to watch the drift/turn indicators when doing dead reckoning navigation... Took me a while to figure what's the problem. Thanks to Hammer_Nine_Seven for the details, I understood better what happened over a long leg ;) Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
