tom1502 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Hi, I've returned to the Mirage 2000 recently and I'm finding that I get no missile tone in the cockpit and I struggle to get it to lock on to anything (although if I fire one the second will lock on to the first and I get a tone for that!). Is there a switch that I am missing somewhere, or a volume knob? I'm stumped by this one as I never had to do anything other than select the Magic before. Thanks, Tom Windows 10 Home - 64 Bit Intel Core i7-9770K 32GB DDR4 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Oculus Rift S
razo+r Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 select your magic and then put your + on the target and get close until you get a tone and a circle on the target
Esac_mirmidon Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Or radar lock the target and slave it to the Magic. " You must think in russian.." jojo Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 (edited) There is a more efficient way. Lock your target with radar, either from search mode or close combat mode ("Special Mode FWD", cycle between bore sight and vertical scan), once target lock hit "Magic Slave" key. Done, ready to shoot. *Off course, the magic lock still depends on target's IR signature (target's aspect, range, after burner...) tom1502 Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 Ok, I'll try those, but I used to get a tone while it was searching, like with the AIM9, but now I only get one if I manage to get it to lock. I have locked up with the Radar and waited until I was within Magic range, but I still get no tone from the seeker head. It's working as intended  Mirage fanatic ! I7-7700K/ MSI RTX3080/ RAM 64 Go/ SSD / TM Hornet stick-Virpil WarBRD + Virpil CM3 Throttle + MFG Crosswind + Reverb G2. tom1502 Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 Ok, so it was wrong before when there was no seeker tone (like you get with the AIM 9 growl)? Windows 10 Home - 64 Bit Intel Core i7-9770K 32GB DDR4 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti Oculus Rift S
jojo Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 This is how Magic works: - Magic in search = no tone - Magic locked = tone Mirage fanatic ! zero Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 The lock area is high up at + mark on the HUD. Probably a bug.
sedenion Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 (edited) The lock area is high up at + mark on the HUD. Probably a bug. No, this is where Magic seeker look at with default alignment (aircraft horizontal plan). You should use the "Magic Slave" command. -> Lock target with radar -> Hit "Magic Slave" => Magic seeker automatically look at the current radar target. The "Interception Circle" in M2k has no real meaning, this is most like "hey, you are in interception mode". Edited June 8, 2017 by sedenion
jojo Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 (edited) The lock area is high up at + mark on the HUD. Probably a bug. It's convenient in a turning fight, it saves you some degrees of AoA to lock a target without radar. The interception circle is used to fly the aircraft to interception course. It isn't missile's firing envelope. However, if the firing plane is already on interception course, it will save some missile's energy to take a lead course. Chrinik Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Conventional wisdom is to put the targets flight vector indicator (the little square) into said interception circle when firing 530s to give the missile an optimal launch without much turning needed off the rail. Practical application holds this to be true. Missile barely jerks when firing there. zero Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Thanks.. Make sense. Practicing shooting down lazy TU-160 only. Feel a little strange to nudge down in those "dogfights"
