hitman Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I seldom see pics of this craft and I am trying to do some research on this vessel. Perhaps Alfa would know what I am looking for.
hitman Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 levitation?? Im talking about a mass troop transport that rides on the ground effect.
Kindred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Your talking about this? http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-l/id1326-o.htm
hitman Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 I may have the name wrong...but its a ship sized aircraft that doesnt float in the water nor fly in the air...it basically rides the ground effect.
FVMAD Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I may have the name wrong...but its a ship sized aircraft that doesnt float in the water nor fly in the air...it basically rides the ground effect. Sounds like some kinda hovercraft to me :)
hitman Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 Its not a hovercraft. Hovercrafts ride on a cushion of air that is skirted by rubber so its still technically in the water.
Kindred Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I think you mean the hovercraft SRN4 model? EDIT oups you guys to fast, lol
GGTharos Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 The Ekranoplan. Google it. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

355th_Paulie Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I think your looking for the so called "Caspian sea monster". A craft that flies with the help of the "WIG" effect. There's been a thread on these forums a while back, if I recall correctly. :D
hitman Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 I was looking for info on the Ekranoplan.
Force_Feedback Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 The things can also make short 'hops' up to 3000m (no pressurized cabin, so no luck on setting altitude records), this ofcourse requires some heavy power setting, making it very, very thirsty. But against ASMs it could be great, RWR/radar detects a ASM coming towards it, the thing flies to a km or so, drops back down, launches its missiles at the enemy, crew has some coffee. IF they actually had developed that concept... Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
hitman Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 What...the coffee break or the launch missiles and THEN have coffee?
Force_Feedback Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 The coffee machine was part of the M34534563463635635645645774574574574574574457457 modernization program, never got the funding, and the M34534563463635635645645774574574574574574457456 is getting quite old, so..., you get the point :p 1 Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
