Cskelly Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Start with a disclaimer, I am not a computer guru by any stretch! I have been having problems with my computer rebooting during a flight. I have tried to turn fans up, clean dust out of the case, thinking it was over heating. I downloaded HWmonitor to check temps. From what I can tell everything is acceptable. I am worried that it is my PSU. I have a Aurora R4, with AMD Radeon R9 390. I have no idea what my PSU is. I was also wondering if I can turn down the specs in the game to prevent it from happening? Or do I need to get a larger PSU (if I can find one for an Aurora R4)? My system specs are as follows: Intel® Core i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz Radeon R9 390 8192mb 20mb ram I tried to update drivers as well. Sorry for my lack of knowledge with my system. I have included HWMonitor test numbers below. FragBum Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Found some specs but wasn't very helpful when it came to the power supply. From c-net site Have you tried to remove video drivers and re-install the latest version? Just looking at pictures of the aurora chassis it looks like the section at the bottom of the case will take a "standard" PSU but that's from dodgy internet pictures. In fact you might be able to red the label on the PSU to find out what the rating is. What version of DCS are you having problems with? Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above. Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.
Cskelly Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 I was Running DCS world 1.5 I believe. Was in ADF training for the Gazelle is when it would reboot. But does it sometimes with the A-10 as well. I updated my video drivers yesterday, doesn't seem to matter what driver I use. I have been looking around at PSUs. Mine has just one large multi-pin plug in in the back ,with a mess of wires coming out! Thanks for your reply!
Sabre-TLA Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Have you checked the Event logs? There might be a clue to what caused the reboot when you review the log entries. For performance testing start at the LOW setting and then work your way up from there until you get unstable - then stop. Try and test with a mission that is typical of what you fly. The more action in the mission (units, combat actions) the more demand on the CPU and graphics card and you will hit your limit sooner. Continue to report your findings as there are many on the forum that can help you out. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
StandingCow Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Try running a benchmark like this: https://benchmark.unigine.com/heaven See if it reboots during the benchmark, it does sound like a PSU issue to me. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo
will- Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 my pc was randomly restarting, RMA'ed my PSU and it hasn't restarted since. but i do not OC or anything. Intel i9-9900K 32GB DDR4, RTX 2080tiftw3, Windows 10, 1tb 970 M2, TM Warthog, 4k 144hz HDR g-sync.
Winston 60 Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Rebooting while playing resource demanding games is nearly always a power supply failure or under wattage. Always look first at your power supply as the culprit in this type of behavior. Quadg Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) have you tried re seating your RAM? take the RAM out and swap it in the slots. RAM issues cause instability and they are quite common especially if your mobo has quick release slots.. i usually reseat my RAM at the same time i clean out dust every 6 months. the instability looks like a heat isuue because it is, as the RAM warms it loses connection to the pins. and quick release slots allows it to wiggle out of place. so the instability either happens when its cold or when it gets hot. To me it looks like a broken PSU. Run some stress tests and see if that also triggers a sudden OFF. I had the same issue yesterday with a Dell Laptop that I worked on, turned out the PSU was bad as well. DocSigma Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Same thing was happening to me. Random reboots, especially under load, are most likely due to a psu issue. Each time I would put my GPU under load my computer would reboot. DCS puts the gpu under load. What I did was had my daughter play a simple steam game and monitored the power draw using gpuz. All was good as my gpu stepped up it's power draw and it's load until the vid card had to up it's load which then resulted in the reboot. Borrow a psu to confirm it's the pus, or just buy a new one. I got a new psu and that remedied my rebooting issues. Automan Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Your PSU should be the same of my Aurora R4, and is rated at max output of 875W You should check cables from PSU to your GPU card. Your card is an XFX R9 390 and it should require use 1x6pin and 1x8pin connectors: try connect 1 x6pin cable from rail 1 of the PSU and the other 6+2pin from rail 2. This operation solved my system reboots under load after upgrading my GTX660 to GTX980ti ACER Predator Orion 9000: W10H | Intel i9-7900X OC@4.5Ghz | 8x16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport | Sapphire GTX1080TI | Intel 900P 480GB | Intel 600P 256GB | HP EX950 1TB | Seagate Firecuda 2TB ACER Predator XB281HK: 28" TN G-SYNC 4K@60hz ThrustMaster Warthog Hotas, TPR, MFD Cougar Pack, HP Reverb Pro
Cskelly Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 Thanks for the input everyone. I will try some of the ideas, and if that doesn't help, I will invest in a new PSU. Thanks again!
