PythonOne Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 How do you successfully do a mid-air refueling with the F-15? The Su-33 (IMHO) is easier because the refueling probe can be seen by the pilot so all i do is hook up and maintain my speed and altitude. But the F-15, the refueling port is on the shoulder, i can't really see it and if i get too close and coming in too fast, the computer automatically kicks in with its hold altitude and hold speed so i missed the refueling boom, i assume that part is a little unrealistic in lock on.
Deadman Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 you won't find any thing better than Iron Hand http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/flightbasics.htm https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

Being the non-real person flyer I would assume so, since if refuelling quals were important, then life'd be alot easier for pilots. I assume that maybe up to 1.12a not enough hard information was available (though I'd even quickly discount this one myself) or maybe they just scripted it to have it as a placeholder, then come back to it and then implement it how it should be. Needless to say Lock On by itself is a complex sim, so that probably was a lower priority (along with the Su-33 itself in some ways) than some of the other issues at the time, given that only one player flyable can do it. PythonOne Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 Just saw the tutorial videos on flankertraining, i was a bit disappointed that the refueling boom could be basically flown straight through. I really wish it could be solid, same rule applies to the refueling hose on the Russian side.
BladeLWS Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 In real life, the F-15 moves up to the boom, and the boom operator moves the boom into the slot. Yea its pretty hard in Lock On since its over your shoulder.
PythonOne Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 Are the lights actually operational under the tanker in Lock On. Isn't that suppose to guide you in to move up, down, left, right?
PythonOne Posted January 1, 2007 Author Posted January 1, 2007 Yea im able to refuel now with the F-15, but not really "professional" I sort of run into the book but just go through it, and i feel like the plane "magically" guide itself in to the boom. Is there any way to change this to be more realistic, like add extra hitpoints or whatever to the boom stick? Unless someone was working on a new tanker model.
51GRIZZLY Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Yea im able to refuel now with the F-15, but not really "professional" I sort of run into the book but just go through it, and i feel like the plane "magically" guide itself in to the boom The refueling is scripted so when you approach with the right closure speed and altitude you can let go of the stick and twiddle your thumb til your plane is filled up. Why ED kept the scripted refueling for the F-15 but not for the SU33 in 1.12 ????? ..... i have no idea
pschelchshorn Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 i really do wish the lights would work because some time ago i did a nice long CAP mission ( took me the whole evening, shitty weather and no club to go to) and i ended up doing a refuel at night.. Deadman Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 they work in single player ya just have to know where to look I have used them https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
