pschelchshorn Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 cool, isnt it? ;) My dad flew the " One O Four" Flip "Imagine the reason that people hold on to hatred so stubbornly is because if the hate is removed, the pain will set in. Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."
Jester_159th Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Well in the early 70's the Luftwaffe used the F-104 for some experiments in VTOL. Although I thought their ideas were more along the lines of rotatable engines on the wing tips (or one very esoteric plan to mount a combined deltawing/ rotor blade assembly on top of the fusalage.... I don't think that one got past the drawing board...Wonder why?:music_whistling: ) It *could* be that this photo was taken at some stage during those experiments, but I'm not certain as I've not seen that particular photo before.
pschelchshorn Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 yeah it was just an experiment. I got some "hardware" pictures, when i got the time ill scan them in. Maverick-90 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Zero Length Launch System, tested to operate the F-104 even if the runways were not useable for takeoffs.... the rocket boosts the plane to a speed, when it wouldn't stall, like a catapult
urze Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Any ideas ? The Zero-Length Launch Fighter: http://www.vectorsite.net/avzel.html This link will lead you to a site that describes all aspects of this experiment. 1 Leftside Limited - ideas and solutions
