ADD ALIAS VAICOM PRO

thanks everyone for your help, especially MAXsenna! for a long time i've been wishing to add aliases to some of the default phrases, but didnt know how.

i was also very pleased to see the recent update didnt erase my profile.

here's what i changed:

[OLD] request landing

[NEW] "fully established", "on final" (get landing clearance after overhead break)

[NEW] "down and locked", "three green" (during straight-in as reply to tower saying "check gear down" -> get landing clearance)

[OLD] request taxi for takeoff

[NEW] "request taxi"

[OLD] request taxi to parking

[NEW] "runway vacated" (kinda superfluous, as tower calls you anyway right after vacating)

these were the only gripes i had with VAICOM, and now i am very happy with it!

cheers

hilok

ADD ALIAS VAICOM PRO

ADD ALIAS VAICOM PRO

---------------------------

here is the transcript of the process i used. it may not be the only or best way to do it, but it worked reliably well for me, and i also like the transparent aspect of it (you see what you are doing):

open VAICOM config window>Editor

before starting any manipulation, note command phrase counter

FYI: before application of [FINISH], it is possible to revert to default using [RELOAD] -> confirm w/counter

use [dropdown] to select command phrase to append new alias(es) to

click [ADD NEW] -> note word counter increment and "<alias><n>" appear in command phrase text input box

repeat for all aliases you whish to add

click [EXPORT] -> windows folder opens

copy "keywords.csv" to a suitable different place of your choice to keep it safe

edit the copy of "keywords.csv" using notes++ (!!) or similar (i.e. NOT WINDOWS NOTEPAD)

find new alias(es) (usually item(s) 316+ around editor line 319)

note every alias is appended by '1's

replace the part(s) with the '1's with the phrase of your choice; save

back in VAICOM>Editor, click white circular icon with right arrow symbol (lower right)

that will change the [EXPORT] icon to [iMPORT]

import the edited "keywords.csv" file

select [NO] "add aliases and keep existing"

go through your edits by selecting the respective command phrase and cycling through all aliases using the icon

to the right of the text input box; incorrect additions may be deleted safely by selecting them and clicking on

[DELETE]

when happy, click [FINISH] and follow instructions...

New open beta broke the link host that was working yesterday :'(

They added new ship units to datalink and apparently when asking for link host "carrier" it's tuning for escort ships now.

This question was raised by me 5 pages ago. So far no any reply received.

I'm not sure it was the same question, but the one you did raise was about being diverted to the alternate airfield, when declaring inbound. When Easy Comms is enabled, the inbound call will be sent to the nearest ship, which would probably have been one of the support vessels that effectively create a ring around the carrier. As those support vessels cannot accept the recovery of an F14 or F18, they will automatically send you to the alternate field. Also, the fact that Vaicom thinks you have selected a ship that isn't a carrier, might also explain why none of the other calls would work.

Maybe try saying "carrier, select" or "<carrier name>, Select", as appropriate, and then say "inbound".

Try link host Washington (or the specific name of the carrier you’re using). Washington worked for me today.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried different options: "Carrier", "Tower", "Marshall", "Stennis" with "inbound" next. It is clear that I receive reply from some other ship and not a carrier. If to use keyboard way of communication, my (pilot) voice sounds differently (?) and I receive positive reply to approach from carrier. A bit strange...

Just depends if there are support ships also using datalink. If carrier is alone or maybe in a particular unit order it works. Else it gets tuned on support ships datalink frequency

but have you tried "carrier, select"?

The select command should make your target carrier the unambiguous target of subsequent radio messages

Yes, I did. Also, I forgot to mention, that whole carrier communication chain has worked perfectly before May 26 patch implementation.

Hi,

I'm really enjoying the Radio Chatter add-on. Do you think it will be possible in the future to be able to make our own chatter files?

does turning off easy comms make it work any better?
I tried just now. Unfortunately no any positive result. In PTT section I clearly see that my message is addressed to the cruiser "Ticonderoga" and not to the carrier. No idea how to redirect the message correctly. Could you share with your VAICOM PRO settings in PTT, Preferences and EX sections (screen shots)?

@marcost Not planned at this time but may be considered in the future.

@Lazy-1962 When supporting vessel units are on the same freq. you need to select the specific Supercarrier unit with the select command first: 'Washington,...Select'.

Then proceed with calling Marking Moms. See manual page 72.

There is no spoon.

There was a mod for the A-10C that did just that, by replacing the radio squelch sound with an hour long recording. Not as elegant as VAICOM, but it's something. You do lose one radio though.

This is a long post, so I might have missed my question . . .

Is it normal that I have to Reset my VoiceAttack Vaicom Pro each time I update DCS?

That is what I have to do to get mine to work correctly again. I Reset Settings, Profile, Theme and Lua code. Do I need to do all of those?

Thanks for any help.

Best to open this as a separate thread in the Vaicom section of the forum.

This will help us help you better (I struggle to go through this thread and find all current issues where I may be able to help) and will also help others who have similar issues trying to see if their problem has already been raised and hopefully resolved.

Short answer is I don't need to and will try and help more later

Thanks Hornblower and Hollywood for your help.

Just did today's hot fix and did the 're-apply the path', thought that could be the issues, didn't work.

Ran my Reset and then reset all the config folders back to where I had them, works great!

Not that big of a hassle, I only started having to do this about six months ago, never had an issue before that.

I'll keep looking for something wrong on my end, thanks again for that quick reply!

Have a new PC and am trying to install VA and Vaicom Pro on it. For some reason though once VA has loaded and the Vaicom Pro 2.5 plugin has initialised, I can't access the control panel with Ctrl+Alt+C.

By searching I see a few people have encountered this and someone mentioned cycling the hot key enabled off and back on but I can't find that option in VA?

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks!

In Voice Attack. Do you have a red icon over the keyboard on the right?

If yes, click it, and you should be okay.

Nope. No red icon. :(
Too bad. Well, was I wild guess. I had that "issue" once. Have you tried to edit the VAICOM profile and tried to add a voice command or just i simple joystick button, just to see if that works?
