Pilotasso Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Withdraw the royal families allowences, that way you could afford 10 aerobatic squadrons... I dont get it, with so much money wasted on other things to maintain the image abroad why cut down on the aerobatics wing? Even in my country we have one, pulled out of defense cuts, theres no excuse for UK ditch theirs. .

Even in my country we have one, pulled out of defense cuts, theres no excuse for UK ditch theirs. It's to balance the study into removing the guns from Eurofighter. Which, for the record, has ended up (after all the R&D into concrete shapes, countless reports, and several tons of paperwork) . . . . in guns still being fitted to Eurofighter :P Bureaucracy! It's fantastic. Britain without the Red Arrows would be ridiculous. What would we do for Jubilees, Grand Prix, airshows, and impressing tinpot dictators? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Andrew_McP Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Funding might be being reviewed, but I very much doubt it will be withdrawn. The Red Arrows, like many similar display teams across the globe, are a powerful recruitment tool, not just a bunch of talented nutters addicted to coloured smoke. I suspect the team also encourages a lot of healthy competition within the RAF, driving up standards. In this day and age, with New Labour so well versed in milking public opinion through focus groups and the like, I suspect this is one of those opportunities for them to create artificial goodwill. First the leak the fact the Red Arrows might lose funding. Then, after much public and media debate, announce the funding's safe and the Red Arrows are saved. Hurrah for the government! Let there be partying in the streets and much waving of Union Jacks made in China! Andrew "cynical" McP
bogusheadbox Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 You know there isn't a lot of things left in this country that is British. I am in for saving whats left before those in govenment give it all away in the name of political correctness.
Spad Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Withdraw the royal families allowences, that way you could afford 10 aerobatic squadrons... If we did that we could probably run every single display team in the world for a good few years!!!!!!!:lol::lol: Why can't BAe stump up some of the cash. They use the Red Arrows as a showcase for the Hawk
GoonerTC Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007  :helpsmilie: I live on Scampton and have the pleasure of seeing them everyday flying. 355th_Paulie Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I can't imagine, not even remotely, that the Red Arrows would be put to a stop. First they're planning to make HP sauce here in Holland, now this?? nah...:( :D
No Fear Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Maybe they couldn't find a better replacement for the Greek leader of the Red Arrows (Major D.Patounas)!:megalol: Seriously,it's a real shame that this might be the end for the Red Arrows. 1 Fighter pilots make movies.Bomber pilots make history! You can fool some people all the time, all the people sometimes, but you can't fool all the people all the time!
