Truth be told...the Blk 52+ C model Viper is considerably better than what alot of people think. As another poster said, just because an airframe is older, doesnt mean whats beneath the panels is the same.

thats interesting..never knew there would be some much chemical debris from a gun firing..

More precisely the gun produces huge fire ball when operates and there isn't any smoke. So it's rather the heat that has damaged the paint so much.

doesn't the paint have any hi-temp properties to withstand this heat??i know i heard about the air force painting it in whatever they could find, but i would think that it would be in that type of paint(and some radar absorbing properties as well).

The heat is not the issue... at least not in itself.

The problem are the gases produced by the propellant, they coat the paint with soot and chemicals, and with heat they react with it. If it's not protected by anything it will stay as integral part of the plane paint job. On F-16s those gases are not so aggressive, so simple cooper coat sprayed over gun port is all what's needed. In MiG-29 case its not so simple, the whole left side of plane was coated with some sort of lubricant that doesn't allow those chemicals mix with the paint, but it reacted with it - hence that greenish color. The whole plane will be washed, it will take some time, but there will be no trace of that soot.

No smoke ? Oh, "you're livin' in dream world Neo..." :smilewink:

Well, looks like your MiG-29s are using some really crappy gun rounds agent Smith :smilewink: because from from all pictures and videos I've seen there is no smoke be it a Fulcrum or Flanker. Just a huge fire, not even tracers.

Pitty I no longer live in Elblag. It's about 20 clicks from Krolewo Malborskie which is 41. home base. I could see some of those over my head :( - I must admit that I have never seen MiG-29 in my life for real... Really nice finding Kusch!
