Good video that DanielNL brought up

*The WMR system does work with Non Steam versions of DCS.*

So I just picked up the Acer AH101 and am blown away at how easy it was to configure and get DCS to run. Also the quality seems good but could be better. I noticed that if I have the settings cranked up, which usually work fine on 24inch 1920x1080 monitor, I get severe screen flicker. I also noticed that if I change the pixel density from 1.0 to anything else it crashes on loading into the pit.

I was wondering what everyone else is setting the game to run at using the Windows Mixed Reality.

Overall I am impressed with how little this device costs, compared to Vive or the Rift. The performance seems to be good, but difficult to see everything in the pit perfectly. I have not tried aerial combat or even target acquisition yet so just wondering if there are any tips, or tweaks anyone else has found to work really well.

I know this is newer technology, just released late last year but I could not pass up the deal on this setup.

Hello Spadje congrats on the new Acer! I am not 100% sure but you seemed to be the first VR pilot to have one of these. At least I have not seen another review for DCS yet. Wondering have you tried to raise the AA in game settings. Maybe its not stable at higher PD but maybe you could smooth the lines out a bit. Also wondering if it compatible with steam VR?

So I have been testing with 2.5 and found my issue. I had gone into the Settings\Mixed Reality and selected Headset Display. From there I turned the visual quality to High and this appears to have been what was causing the issue. I turned it back to Automatic and played for about 2 hours last night without issue. It is a bit hard to read everything in the pit but the hud was clear and I was able to pick out targets in the M-2000C without tags turned on.

I would have imagined my system could handle the high setting but apparently I need a 1080ti lol. I can tell a little difference in the quality but overall I am pleased with it, it just looks beautiful and adds more realism to the Sim....just cant wait for the F-18 module beta release :)

Well after a bit of testing last night I am finding that if I change the textures or the terrain textures to higher than the low setting, it crashes on load. If they are set to low it works fine. Any thoughts?

Might be VRAM usage. I have an Oculus Rift and in 104th, it uses 10GB of VRAM. In a target range mission, it uses 5.5 GB. I picked up an Odyssey yesterday hoping for better resolution. In the same target range mission it uses 8.5 GB and 104th will not load. The game simply crashes after a few minutes of loading screen. Even with 1.0 PD, it won't load. This is with a 1080 TI, which has 11GB of VRAM.

Hey. Ive also got the acer headset and 2.5 just hangs during mission load and eventually crashes regardless of settings. Hopefully someone at ED can take a look at MR support.

Check your visual quality settings in the mixed reality options in Windows. Make sure it is set to auto. Then in DCS be sure to select VR for the quality, it sets the terrain and textures to low, which kind of sucks but it still looks fine.

MR works great in DCS. I have a 1080ti and run modified high settings and Super sampling on 1.4.

I have to turn off AA, HDR, and heat blur. Turn down shadows to flat. Water to medium. Trees and distance sliders in the middle. Chimney smoke density to 1.

45ish FPS down low and 60 to 90 up high.

2.5 is beautiful!

Dang, may have to try messing with the super sampling, are you changing that in the SteamVR settings?

No only in-game. I only use the Steam settings if a game doesn’t have the option.

Well I get home and the only option I see in game is pixel density, I do not see supersampling inside DCS. Eitherway I set mine to 1.4 and it would not load. I set it back to 1.0 and it will not consistently open. If I get it to run I can fly for a good while. However, if I change to a different mission or instant flight it crashes while loading. I have uninstalled everything and reinstalled but cannot get any consistency out of it...really tempted to send it back at this point :(

Pixel density and super sampling are the same thing.

I figured as much, the odd thing is whenever I change it to something other than 1 it crashes DCS...weird.

Are there any settings you guys are changing in the SteamVR settings or just leaving those alone?

So with the newest update from SteamVR Beta I can play without issue. I was able to do a few missions and there was no stuttering or crashes. It is good to see Steam taking such an interest in WMR :)

Nice! Glad you got it working. I was curious on your settings and performance? When you get a chance to comment on the "viewable distance". And in general spotting I guess? I know this might be a mute point. Just thought I would ask. Thanks!

That is crazy low settings for a 1080ti compared to Rift...

Sorry for the late response, got the flu shortly after getting things fixed and got behind on school work...should be able to get some information on those settings this week sometime :)

On the VR tab I have the pixel density set to 1.4, that makes things pretty clear and I can see airborn targets fairly easy without labels on. I have not toyed much with the settings below since Steam has fixed a lot of issues with the WMR. With these settings in the Nevada Test range map I am getting 70-90 FPS in Vegas I get about 50+ and it feels pretty smooth. I may toy around with these later and see if I can up the texture quality and visibility range without to much cost to FPS.

What is the start procedure? I have Dell Visor and can't get DCS to run on my Visor... (VR enabled in DCS setting)
