FOXFIRE TWOONE Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Before the upgrade to 2.5 I used disk cleaner to clean my ssd and, then used free Ccleaner to clean everything else, internet and all other sectors. Between the two cleaner's and reducing DCS's to one install I have gained 40 GB of usable space on my ssd. zaelu Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 is normal on SSD drives... is how they work... sometimes they keep a lot of data that was deleted/moved for a while and the size is reported "wrong" by the SO. Once some time passes or you keep deleting the drive (overwriting, etc) it will show correct size and remove the redundant data. Eldur Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 It's not an SSD issue. It's caused by Windows. I had a data HDD that was almost completely full. Removed files worth of almost 100 gigs and just got like 15 gigs free space, no recycle bin or whatever used at all. Had to run through several cleanup methods and reboots to actually get the freed space shown. ( just see https://www.google.com/search?q=windows+deleting+files+doesn%27t+free+space )
FragBum Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Also keep in mind the difference in reported file size and available disc space relates to actual cluster allocation unit size eg if you have a 1000 1Kb files you have 1MB of files and say the smallest allocation unit is 32KB then storing that 1000 1KB files takes 32MB of drive space plus space for FAT*. Neglecting decimal vs binary as in 1000 vs 1024 etc. * whatever scheme is used to catalogue the files stored on the unit. Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.
