Using STEAM --- Advantages vs. Disadvantages ?

How does Steam work with DCS?

Are my DCS purchased modules compatible with Steam? I have most of the entire inventory purchased direct from the DCS Store.

What are advantages using Steam compared to flying Multiplayer via DCS 2.5 OpenBeta ?

None, run away.

I would never buy a module on steam because a would think steam would take a cut and i want as much of my money for aircraft going to ED as possible.

steam is great when you think about it .....

1. Fancy trying a module out ? buy it on steam try it for less than 2 hours

2. request refund

3. get refund

4. go and then buy it off ED directly if you like it

5. dont like it got your money back anyway

it is a win win!

Steam take 30% for themselves. Given that the flight sim market is pretty niche it's better not to give them that cut. I've got plenty of games on Steam but DCS and IL-2 I always buy direct.

There's really no advantages to having DCS on Steam other than it auto updates for you. If anything you're disadvantaged as new releases tend to hit Steam a bit later than the direct releases from ED.

Steam is ok for many games but for DCS I really prefer my standalone installs.

I bought my first modules via Steam but all subsequent modules and maps I got from ED directly.

Standalone ! FTW !!!

Agreed. I have over 400 games on Steam but DCS is not one of them.

Steam has auto-update, quicker downloads and you can abuse the refund system.

Standalone pretty much has auto-update + DL's are fine if you can wait a day after each patch, so really the only thing is you trade refunds for getting patches quicker and getting EA modules.

Personally, I prefer beta branch, more patching and having access to all the modules.

I love steam. But for DCS don't hesitate, go standalone and get modules from DCS site
