Rolds Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 I have 32 gb ram, i7 7700, gtx 1070, ssd install, and was not having any problems with 2.5 loading times. 2.5.1 has resulted in a performance hit and I'd like to go back. Thanks! Rolds
Eldur Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Reminds me of Windows now. Starts swapping even though 30GB of physical RAM are still free That's why to disable the swap file The memory manager should not just free up space by removing assets that haven't been used for 10 seconds, it should also just do that if the free memory is getting low.
tflash Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 I also have performance problems now that I didn't have in 2.5. 2.5 worked very well on my PC, In 2.5.1 when I switch views (eg F2 to another plane or so, it always starts with a black object and it takes time to reload the skins. ) This makes that I now are no longer able to make videos and experience a serious FPS hit at the same time. I have enough memory so that is not the issue. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
tintifaxl Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 In german there is a special word for this: verschlimmbessert, meaning making it worse with the intention to make it better. But I‘m confident ED will remedy the shortcomings of the memory Manager sooner than later. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
BitMaster Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 For me 2.5.1 works a bit better tho it taxes less ressources. It's smooth and loading times are somewhat OK, not optimal but I dont crash and I can fly, reproducable. But I agree, the limiter should have a dial for 8-16-32GB machines or any other stepping that makes sense. I don't think it's verschlimmbessert all the way. It really cuts the RAM usage and that is what many asked for.
