Av8rjoker Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Hey everyone. I'm coming back to DCS from a few years ago. I know this has probably been asked a million times and I'm sure I the answer is "get better" but I'm having a really hard time here. I'm using FC3 for the most part right now because everything is technically simpler. I'm practicing by just doing the instant mission for the A-10A where there is a group of tanks and I think just one Shilka. Here's my problem. I can't identify the targets. This seems a lot harder than it was when I played last for some reason. I turned on labels and everything and that doesn't seem to help a whole lot identifying individual targets. Sure, it helps me know the general area, but the area is flooded with labels stacking over each other and so of the tiny black specks that I see I can't make out which one is the Shilka that's going to kill me every time. Even when using the TV screen I can't tell what anything is. I just hit enter on a piece of ground and slew around until it locks onto a black speck. Are the model sizes smaller in previous versions? What am I doing wrong here besides just being bad? Is there anything I can do, mods, settings, anything so I don't suck as much?
Greyman Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 It's been a while since I've flown the A10A in an FC3 mission, but if you have a wingman, maybe ask him to engage air defences. If he doesn't destroy it, then at least you will see where the SAMs are coming from. I know it's a little harsh, but he's not a real wingman. ;)
Greyman Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 maybe get up above 15,000ft, hopefully out of range of the SAM, and see if you can get a bit more time to spend on identifying which one it is. If i remember correctly, the A10A doesn't have a TGP, like the one in the A10C, so picking out targets is going to be a little tough. If that doesn't work, this thread from 2010, might be of some use. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51782 Good luck

davidp57 Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Here is a piece of advice from my (old) days, when I learned to use the Ka50 Shkval : if you set your "Resolution of cockpit display" to anything less than 1024 (or 1024 every frame, which I discourage you to select), the image on your Shkval/TGP/TPOD/Viviane will be less distinct and targets will be much more difficult to identify... hollywoodvillain Posted May 7, 2018 Posted May 7, 2018 Theres been a lot of posts lately about model visibility in the newer versions of DCS. You are not the only one having this problem. Hopefully ED will implement a solution in the near future that can make everyone happy
Av8rjoker Posted May 8, 2018 Author Posted May 8, 2018 I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'll up the frames on my cockpit to see if that helps. I really need to upgrade my computer as well so that might be a thing that will happen soon but I want to make sure this game is working properly before I drop $1,000.
HawkeyeHHDF Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 It is extremely difficult for me to see things even when I know exactly where they are with radar lock, I have had to use a label mod just to make it workable for me, No VR at 1080p Hawkeye VF-213 CO VCVW-11 http://www.vcvw-11.com Heatblur F-14 SME
h.kan Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 I also have this problem. Maybee my eysight is poor due to high age? But it take away the fun. Why cant ED do a "calibrating track" where everyone could calibrate the right distance for a irl pilot with good eysight. That way we all would bee able to see targets at the same distance.
Mars Exulte Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Realistically, picking out a specific vehicle like a Shilka out of a column is pretty difficult without using a TGP or something to locate it first at a distance. Even then, at long range they're still just going to be little black things on the road. You can't really start identifying specific make/model of vehicle until you get much closer, especially when you're talking about variations of tracked vehicles all based on similar hulls. Ideally, pick away at the group from a distance, the Shilka won't matter. If you have to get in close, then maybe make an evasive run as you watch to see which one starts shooting at you (you won't be able to miss the Shilka, trust me) then you can loop around and make a run on it. @h.kan Because it's a video game, not an optometry clinic @@ Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
