I can't get any of my trim controls to respond. I used the default keyboard keys and mapped the trim nose up and down to my Thrustmaster BUT i'm still not seeing it do anything when I press them. The in cockpit joystick doesn't move either. other planes I can visually the see cockpit view joystick moving in relation to my trim input.

 

am i doing something wrong?

I found holding the trim down till you reach required position works but trimming like we do in other planes does not work

Wags mentioned this is normal and has a slower than what we are used to response. I will say it is very slow though. What I usually do is press it once, then press and hold the second time. It will trim up or down after this, but very very slowly.

They are saying this is how it is supposed to be. Makes trimming for landing difficult with the flaps issue now that drops the nose so much when you go full flaps.

 

You have to press trim twice it seems and hold.it in the second consecutive press and then you should see a slow response.

Apparently, when you're Gear Up, Trim works more like we're used to in say, the A-10C but Gear Down, it needs to be held for a longer period of time and not just tapped.

 

Gear Up trim affects flight control surfaces but Gear Down, it actually should move the stick to relieve back pressure.

 

At least this is the interpretation in our Squadron where we have former Hornet maintainers.

Interesting feedback. Even gear up I have to hold down the trim button on my warthog stick to get it to move a little. I guess it just takes some more getting used to.

Hold it down, sometimes I do one press, then second press+hold and it responds but it's a very slow response. Once you get used to it, trimming in the A10c will mess you up since all you do there is tap trim and it responds much quicker.

Will I see the stab trim changing in the FCS DDI?

Yes if you have your fcs page you should see your stab value change. Trim is terribly slow but it does work just not as quick as other modules.

Any ideas on how to reset the trim? I've been doing touch and go's and am finding it difficult to reset trim.

What I haven't yet seen is a simple explanation of what we should be setting after take off and how.

 

Can anyone help?

Set auto flaps after take off and the plane will auto trim itself for level flight, around 1g I notice sometimes. Edited by sze5003

- On the deck, we reset trim (FCS button), half flaps, t/o trim button, then + some additional trim depending upon weight

- Post take off, enable "full" flaps.

I'm assuming that in normal flight that we should run in auto.

Not full, auto flaps. Sorry. Was thinking about landings earlier.

 

No worries we are all here learning one thing or another. I usually do the fcs bit test before take off too, then I set half flaps, take off, gear up and auto flaps. The cold start tutorial misison goes over this too.

More thoughts on that matter;

 

I found that when gear down, full flaps and air brake on, it is not possible to trim the aircraft in pitch (elev value does not change). However, as soon as I retract the airbrake, trimming works as expected.

 

Don’t know if the problem lies in AB supposed to be retracted automatically when in dirty config or just trim bug.

 

Any of you able to reproduce this?
