Server News:

The post for the new mission, Clash of Eras, has been updated to include all briefing images. Turns out I've used all the attachment space allowed for a user on the forums uploading so many images throughout the years, so I had to delete older ones.

Reminder: The mission kicks off this Sunday, 08.05.2022, around 1800 zulu.

The Helicopters Tournament 15 kicks off this Saturday, 07.05.2022. Slots are still available. If not enough players sign up I'll cancel it though, and move the new mission, Clash of Eras, to kick off on Saturday instead of Sunday.

A couple suggestions on Swedish Delivery:

1. Add a certain time buffer between the removal of all SA-2 threat and the bomber spawn.

It makes more sense if the escort flight could clear the path in advance, instead of scrambling at Vody in the meantime bombers are already directly overhead at 36k

2. Further tuning of AI bomber flights: forbid bomb jettison on B-52 / change reaction to threats /speed up to M0.8+ ...

3. Add dedicated air-to-air Viggen slots to unlock as bomber escort, preferably with some advanced weaponry.

For one it fits more the story telling. Also at height F-5 is underperformed, and underarmed against intercepting MiG-21bis by a wide margin. Specially headon with R3R brings guaranteed loss to bomber flights. The airframe performance deficit contribute to the awkward situation where F-5s could not force its skillful red opponents into defensive.

Thoroughly enjoyed the last two runs with the remake of the mission! In the first run I got the vague hint about the Swedish part in the mission. But not till I wiped out the target SAMs with F-5 did it occurred to me that the title suggested the Viggens were the ones to carry out the mission. Or at least my callsign made up for that😉

Thanks for the effort. I would like to know the feedback from the other side as well, thanks in advance.

1- That's why the B-52's start 50-75 km northeast of Vody to give you a bit of buffering.
2- That must've been added automatically after one of the latest updates for the game. I'll check it out.
3- Or, wait for either the F1 or the F-4 to arrive (or both) to solve that problem, which was my original plan when I designed the mission. Admittedly, we had all-aspect missiles when I first launched the mission, so it was never an issue. I'd hate to start making some changes while knowing the F1 and the F-4 are coming. The only problem is, we have no idea when!

How about some lines/text on F10 maps? For new ppl to have a quick reference on whats going on.

The draw tool is OK, but it has many flaws. The texts are rubbish because every time you zoom in and out they're stretched out all over the map. Very unreliable. However, I've just added some drawings to Swedish Delivery. The new mission, Clash of Eras, has drawings already. More missions to follow. On the other hand drawings alone don't explain anything without texts. They must be some adjustment for that.

@All:
Operation Sukhumi - The Beginning kicks off today around 1900 zulu, or maybe earlier if the current mission is finished by either side.

Not exactly. In an ideal situation where both sides scramble jets from respective homebases soon as the bombers are on the scope, MiG-21 will manage to merge with the targets (coalt or above at M1.2+) prior than F-5 to just line up with bombers, by about half a minute or so. Clash will be inbetween bomber waypoint 2 and 3. That was what more or less happened last night, only the timing difference was greater, and was outnumbered by x3.

Visual representation as follows,

Spoiler

A 5-minute buffer should be bare minimum so as to send in escort flight. A reasonable 15 min buffer should allow scattered fighters over the map to RTB roadbase/homebase and proceed to BARCAP position.

True! Especially with F1 it's been in 2 weeks  status for a long while. I wish the arrival of two new airframes could spice up the missions.

- Operation Search & Destroy (PG map) kicks off this Friday, 13.05.2022, around 1830 zulu. (MiG-29A's and F-14A's featured)
- Operation Arab-Israeli-War (Syria map) kicks off this Saturday, 14.05.2022, around 1800 zulu. (A-4 mod featured)
- Operation Clash of Eras (Syria map) kicks off this Sunday, 15.05.2022, around 1800 zulu. (Ka-50's and AH-64's featured)

* Arab-Israeli-War change log:
- Red tanks are in groups of 2 or 4 tanks, type T-55.
- All Blue tanks are in groups of 2 tanks, type M60.
- Added a few M60's at Rosh Pina and Kiryat Shmona Airbases.

* Clash of Eras change log:
- B-52's were removed. Unfortunately, once they're activated Blue cmdr and JTAC operators are able to see all Red ground units, even hidden ones.

Note:
The B-52 issue is new to me and I have no idea how long it's been like that. I'll keep B-52's in other missions, but not in Clash of Eras. Very unfortunate.

Would you guys entertain another MiG-15 vs F-86 mission (and only these two modules, nothing else)? What do you think about going for the Mariana Islands map with it? I know it's mostly water, but since no SAM's are available and all altitudes are "flyable" because of that I thought why not. Combined Arms will not be included (water only) and with that B-52's will be included. I'll try and add some Red B-52 counterparts as well.

The settings required to make visual range air combat possible in VR make fighting over water a miserable experience. Basically the water is black and there is zero depth perception. As a result, we end up flying at 5 feet all the time in Marianas so we can skyline the enemy. Plus, Marianas is hard on low end end systems so that punishes low end systems as well. Marianas should be used for Close Air Support style missions, I think.

I don't think it would be a popular choice for a gunfighters mission.

Thanks for the hint 😉

You really see the water black in VR?! Just looked up some youtube videos and the water looked very normal. Maybe it's on your end only?

What you see in videos produced by VR users is not what you see in the goggles. VR headsets "mirror" what you see in the goggles to your flat screen monitor and this is what is recorded and what you see on youtube. And it looks a lot better than what is presented in the headset although it is actually at a much lower resolution. The only way to see what others see in VR is to be in VR.

I can make the water look okay in VR but it isn't playable in MP PvP visual range combat. Other aircraft are rendered into invisibility and if I crank up the settings in Marianas, the terrain causes a significant performance hit.

And it isn't because I have low end hardware. I am running a I9-10900K overclocked to 5.2, 64 Gb RAM and a 3090 GPU.

In missions that have both land and water, I will purposely pull the fight over land or disengage if it goes out over water far enough to lose depth perception.

In Disturbed Pacific we mainly just fought over Rota because of this and the SA-5's. If the scenario is high flying bombers to protect and intercept, the water won't be nearly as much of an issue but any low level fighting over water would be avoided by me and the guys I fly with in VR. Other folks may have different settings in VR than we do but we have all optimized our VR to be able to see the bandits and keep track of them as the sole driving criteria.

Operation: Close Air Support - Mariana Islands!

Mission Specifications:

- The mission runs for 3 days - 72 hours.
- The goal is to capture and hold Antonio B. Airbase, at the bullseye.
- The capture zone is seen on the F10 map as a black rectangle.
- The coalition holding the airbase by the end of the mission is the winner!
- All enemy ground units in the capture zone must be destroyed!
- A single firendly unit is enough to capture and hold the airbase.
- All helicopters start at sea - Kuznetsov/Tarawa.
- Ships can be attacked, however, it's risky and not the objective.
- Waypoint-1 for all helicopters is the bullseye, Antonio B. Airbase.

---------------------
Ka-50's and Mi-24's:
---------------------

- Search & destroy enemy tanks!

-------
Mi-8's:

Check out the map for the CTLD pick up zone and the location of the Kuznetsov.

Deploy troops to help with holding the objective.

--------------
Frequencies:
--------------

Main freq. (GCI if available): 124 MHz - Channel 0 for Mi-24's R-863
Kuznetsov: 127.5 MHz - Channel 18 for Mi-24's R-863

****************************************************************

Blue Objectives:

-------------------------
AH-64's and OH-58's:

Server News:

Operation Close Air Support - Mariana Islands kicks off this Saturday, 21.05.2022, around 1830 zulu.

Notes:

- Ships are limited to a 50% engaging range -> 16-20 km.
- Flying at relatively high altitudes between ca. 300 - 500 m (ca. 1000 - 1600 ft) around the bullseye should be low enough to stay out of the enemy's ships' reach.
- This is due to various hills/small mountains obscuring the line of sight of ships on both sides.
- Petrovich and George don't track aerial targets.
- Capturing the airbase is only possible if ground units are within the the black square marked on the F10 map as shown below.
- Remember! Only a few slots on both sides, hence the password for the event. Players on TeamSpeak will be the first to get the password before I announce it here.
- Signups are not needed.
