Is it possible to remove the headphones from the rift hmd?

Yeah, easy. There is a black plastic screw behind each one. A couple of turns each and they come off. Although they are very good quality so not sure why you’d want to.

Agreed with the above. My "listening" headphones are a pretty good pair of Sennheisers, and I still chose to use the built in ones. They're MUCH better than you might expect.

Same for me, I had the Sennheisers and really the Oculus was just as good for me.

I took mine off so when on discord after a flight I don't need to change to a new head set or keep Oculus on and pushed up to talk. I just take headset and Oculus off then put headset back on. I find this much easier

The Rift headphones are very, very good ones. The better ones are the Oculus Earphones if you have loud background noises. But you need to insert them to ears each time etc.

 

I just find the Rift headphones very easy to use as you don't need to do anything else than remember just to switch the audio output to Rift from other games.

Another one to Sennheiser club, HD-25 here. But I prefer to use HD-25 with the Rift, is true the Oculus headphones are very good, but I prefer a closed back design for cancelling noise (noisy and OCd computer).

 

The bad part is that a closed back design is worst for you ears in long time use, but I’m a musician and already def ;)

Some situations I need headphone in a non vr mode and other I use vr and it’s a pita to keep switching audio input and output between my headphones and the rift.

I actually use the ear buds from Oculus, and found I prefer them over the stock over ear ones.

The sound is great the mic seems to work but at times I use a separate headset with mic for atc using the monitor nor vr and it’s a pain remembering to switch back and forth

That should allow you to make so that when you launch VR game, it switch to Rift Audio, when you stop it, returns to another.

OTT [Oculus Tray Tool] does that for you.

OTT doesn't do it for others, that is what does it for all. And it doesn't just swap output but it stream it differently. Like same time run browser on speakers while game is in headphones etc...
