I wish there could be more options for labels. I hate using labels but finding enemies in bare eyes is very hard sometimes... (to a point it is not realistic anymore or fun in my mind)

I have some suggestions...

Add an option for a simple label, like, a red dot on the enemy, nothing else. More visible, but not too visible. Maybe even possibility to choose custom color for enemy/friendly tag. Maybe a slider for the distance label starts to show up

Option to exxagerate object size. IIRC this was once implemented but is now removed.

Add reflection flashes / other occassional effect that give away the target

Labels scaled by distance to object as well.

There is a mod floating around that do exactly what you are asking, it puts a small subtle shade around the enemy plane that dissapear at close distance, though i dont use it myself, if you do a quick search in the mod section you'll find it.

As has been mentioned - already possible.

Or make both Blue and Red dots purple, and avoid unrealistic IFF

Cheers.

Even then, the mod doesn't scale with resolution. If you run the sim in 4k the dot is so tiny you might as well not being using the mod at all. Labels also have the bad feature of being visible through solid cockpit parts.

DCS needs something like smart scaling. ED introduced model-enlargement sprites a couple years ago. The sprites were supposed to be a better solution because they were "new" and smart scaling is "old." But the sprites were so unsuccessful they were removed from the game while smart scaling remains a popular visibility option. 1990s tech for the win.

Thanks will try. Although these are very importang settings so i think they there should be option in vanilla dcs tbh

Yes thanks everyone. I found a decent labeling system that i modified to my own needs.

Airplanes have purple smudge that goes away when near, much easier to spot against sky etc and against ground if keeping track, but very easy to lose sight against ground. Weapons are not labeled.

Ground and naval targets have similar label on ranges 2-5km.

Very happy! I'll add the file if someone is interested.

Bump. Although distance can be set in labels.lua, what's not taken account of is object SIZE. An aircraft carrier and a yacht (or 747 / yak-52) would not become visible at the same distance. Is there any way to add a multiplier that takes object size into account?
