and this is a pulse doppler so moving at the same speed as the target isn't beneficial for radar acquisition

Actually the pulse-doppler radar doesn´t care. It locks up contacts with the same speed just fine.

the radar is VERY WIP so most radar modes are really unreliable

so aacq doesnt work? all the other modes like vertical and wide range and bore seem to work fine.

aacq is the only one i'm having trouble with.

I’ve gotten locks with aacq. Remember that it takes several seconds for the radar to complete it’s sweep. And I’ve found that it is important to not maneouver while it is acquiring.

I think you are the first one then. WACQ is working (sort of) but AACQ is AFAIK not, yet.

Out of the four modes you mention, I believe that AACQ is the only one yet to be implemented. Perhaps that will change with the upcoming patch.

Yep, WACQ seems to work as well as boresight...hey, why isn't there a three/four letter notification code on the HUD showing that you are in Boresight? something like BST....you got AACQ, WACQ, VACQ, GACQ (guns), and BST for boresight

Why? It can't be because 4th of July...they don't celebrate that over there, do they?

No, but they know a large number of their customers do. Jeez, I got hooked on these updates now! Everyday when I fire up my rig in the morning, first thing I do is check for DCS updates:lol:

Maybe because you have a circle on your HUD indicating that you are in boresight.

Is that what that circle is for??? Wow, you learn something every day. So if I ever see a circle on the HUD it means boresight, right?

lol me too... hah!

Boresight works somewhat, but as soon as you pull the target outside the circle it throws away the lock which makes no sense at all. Hopefully that'll be fixed soon :)

AACQ auto locks up nearest target in your DDI or the target that your TDC is over. But it is not working yet as far as I've tried/read.

BORE and WACQ works ok.

VERTICAL SCAN is kind of working although not in the way that it should because you need to have the target more or less in your HUD to lock it up which defeats its purpose. I read it will be fixed.

UPDATE: After latest patch (Open Beta for me) - ACM Vertcal Scan now works. AACQ still does not work.

Do you think that Caging/Uncaging the HUD would make a difference with that?

Hi, as I understand it...

VERT SCAN: Uncaging the Aim-9 might help (not sure if that works) but BORE, VERT SCAN, WACQ is supposed to uncage the Aim-9 after locking up the target, automatically.

WACQ: Currently WACQ uses caged mode. Uncaged (slewable) mode will be implemented later. (Doesn't apply to AACQ.)

:)

Ah ok, I remember seeing a video before of the AV8B in uncaging/caging the hud in boresight. From what I could see, it allowed you to move the nose away from target when uncaged, and keep lock. Maybe I have the wrong idea about the purpose caging and uncaging.

You ask, I answer. What do you want?

Maybe you should write an email to Raytheon. They should know.
