Greetings.

Just picked up the 430. However I try to do as much research on these modules before purchasing them, and frankly Im a little upset if what I have found, or lack of finding is correct.

I looked through the Entire BST NS430 Manual and there are a plethora of sections that discuss Instrument approach procedures as well as SIDs/STARs etc. So one of the main reasons of wanting this was to add functionality to many of the aircraft that do not have advanced NAV with the popup 430.

I am unable to find any database IAP for any airport in the caucuses as well as nothing being loaded for arrivals or departures section. I figured for the insane length of time the Caucuses map and several years for the 430 being out there would be a database available. Not to mention it discusses them in the manual.

Am I wrong and there are approaches for Sochi etc. ? Or is this just something they cut and pasted into the manual and have never added to the map ?

Is there a way I can add via a text editor then if there are not ? a configurable .lua with the database ?

Thanks

EDIT: Seems like there are only a few IA procedures. however you have to build a FP before being able to add them. Secondly does anyone know if we can permanently store user waypoints in the .lua or something similar ?

I was wondering the same thing. I fired up NNTR and Henderson had a GPS and a VOR approach but there’s not much in the Caucuses.

But that’s kind of okay because there’s no CDI either. :/

Yea seems inconsistent what approaches / arrivals there are. You would think for Sochi there would be a plethora of approaches available. Also seems like issues loading the approaches, following per the manual on the FP setup. Need to work on this further and test.

So procedures for URMO - Beslan But not for Sochi ? kinda ironic is it Russian airports only ? Dont understand the logic or the lack of database possibly ?

Not ATM.

I fear that like DCS's gun cameras that don't save screen shots for mission debrief/review, the NS430 will remain a 'gimmick' module without the basic functionality of the real unit i.e. save settings, flight plans, USR waypoints, etc.

Perhaps a consecuence of the new Caucasus scenery!?!

No, it was the same in 1.5.7

does someone know how the REAL thing loads data? is there an USB port for a Stick?

'controlling' the Ka50 feels like a discussion with the Autopilot and trim system about the flight direction.

The real one has SD card slot.

so, ED you know what you need to do. Give us the ability to write our own "SD-Cards".

Completely agree +1

Or at least the user waypoints and info /. Flight plans can get saved to the user data folder just as screen shots and user preferences and bindings.

This way can be recalled any time we play on any server or mission.

I found the approach and departure route information files.

Can't remember the exact filestructure, but I'll find it when I get home (around 2200z)

It was something like mods/aircraft/ns430/cockpit/scripts/<the one I can't remember>/<icao code>/

Then there is a file each for approach and departure.

I haven't seen any comments, and they don't look very human-readable from what I saw in the few minutes I had to look at it, but I'm sure we can figure out what the values are.

I'll start with some copypasta and see what I can figure out.

Okay, the folder is

DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\NS430\Cockpit\Scripts\avionics\terrain\aptdb

Then folders with the first letter of the ICAO code, then the files.

so /K/KLSV/arr.txt looks like this:

Time to do some digging.

Time to do some digging.

Yes quite a bit as that seems to be coded and there is not any type of waypoint / Rnav fix transcribed into a lat/lon coordinate system. Would have been nice to run that way as could have been making importing into an excel template a heck of a lot easier to edit or augment and add.

Or even custom way points for that matter adding to the permanent database.

I really wish ED would have given us the ability to save perminantly a list of User way point in our savegames folder like for example the kneeboard files are.

Especially with the advent of CombatFlite, pre mission planning and flight plans would be a reality
