After you shoot a sparrow, do you have to keep the steering dot inside the ASE? What about the TD box-does it have to be kept inside the ASE?

Does anything have to be kept within the ASE?

 

 

I ask this because I understand that the Sparrow does not have its own radar.

No to either just keep the Tgt inside the radar Gimbal limits ... i.e. on scope

As long as the radar maintains its lock until the target is hit (or not!) the steering dot/TD box do not need to be kept in the ASE. All the Dot/ASE is for is to give the missile an adequate lead on the target at the point of firing and to assist steering the plane to the best release point.

I think an argument can be made for keeping the steering dot inside your circle...doing so, helps you to get a better angle on the target if we have to go to guns, at least it does for me :)
