[ACCURATE] Beta 2.5.2.20036 - Dark band on hud

Recommended Posts

Just updated to latest open beta build and wanted to see the changes to the Hornet hud.

While the tint is better a nasty darkish band shows up now. See attached screenshot.

Anyone else having this issue ? Repair didn't change anything. No mods enabled.

The HUD has two super impossed pieces, thats why you see the color change.

Yes, but there's actually a vaguely rectangular area 1 cm high around the AOA index that's notably darker than the areas above and below it, which should not be there with the Hornet's two part reflector plate.

Take in count FOV, angle of view, zoom, etc.

Is not the same a 2D image or a 3D real image.

Yes, there is a weird band and it changes with the perspective. I use VR set so I peeked behind the front glass and from the side. It's not just overlapping effect with the top/front glass. Only part of the back glass is effected by this. I need to look at it again yo describe it better. Someone will probable beat me to it:)

I agree, I don't think this banding is right either.

Whereas the whole back glass used to make it a darker shade, this is a definite band that gets wider/thinner depending on the POV. This dark band only affects the front glass as I see it (Banding 1.jpg).

It gets thinner the higher you sit in the seat (Banding 2.jpg).

As the POV changes, it also starts to affect the graphics that are projected on the front glass, making them illegible (Banding 3.jpg) and that destructive band, (which appears to be clear at the bottom of the back glass), becomes wider so affecting more of the graphic on the screen (Banding 4.jpg).

It's hard for me to get this didn't get reported at all yet since there clearly is an issue with the bigger combiner glass (the one closer to you). I attached some screenshots edited with XnView (Gamma 0.33, Contrast +66, Brightness +33) to make it more visible. It's really becoming obvious like right in your face in motion though.

Actually, I'd even prefer the old darker HUD, which always was supposed to be 100% right according to the SMEs before out of a sudden it got changed after literally tons of endless discussions about it being tinted too much. IMHO the problem is rather the fact that in DCS the tint is visible at the same amount in any light conditions whereas in reality it just shows up in some few special light conditions which is why you don't get to see it on most RL videos. DCS though doesn't simulate these light physics well enough so it has to come around with a compromise.
