PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

Firmware Hot Fix Habu found the the cursors were timing out in the HP Reverb Headset during the 5 point calibration.

The reason the cursor vibrates during this step is so the Headset thinks the cursor is moving and does not turn it off.

This is different from FCU time out that turns off the FCUs LED after the user set period of time. Its important during calibration to be sure to press the rear most button to ensure the FCU LED is on, followed by pressing the forward most button to accept the curser to FCU alignment.

As always, during calibration, please ensure the unused FCU is not visible to the HMS.

Thanks,

Miles

I am number 198. I received two emails on the 25th with tracking numbers. As of this morning the tracking still shows as the post office hasn’t received the packages yet? I know there is a lag but I wanted to check as its 4 days now.

Thanks

Terry

Hi Terry,

The packing slips and shipping labels are printed prior to final testing. Each order is then compiled from those packing slips. Next each component of that order (chargers, batteries, FCUs, HMS, automatic firmware updating,) are tested as a unit right before Carol packs them up.

Once all of the orders are completed and packed, Carol then verifies that she got everyone in that group, then they are off to the local post office.

This week, quite a few orders kept coming from this group at the last minute, which delayed things a bit.

If the late orders are not through testing by COB today, we will split the group and ship the completed ones.

I probably should have done that in the first place, but I forgot about Thanksgiving. Carol had this groups orders ready to go a few days ago just as the late orders started coming in.

Thanks for asking, I have had a few questions in general, on why the delay from when the shipping label is printed to when tracking is available, so I thought I would share the process with everyone.

Thanks for your patience. We are just trying to keep the process as efficient as possible to speed up everyone's order.

Miles

Hey Harlikwin,

Its almost done, but I changed things a bit. Basically, now there is an audio assistant every step of the way that knows where you are in the process and helps you along. You can stay and listen to the step by step, or just click on through.

Here are some pics of the Aux Buttons I am sending out to testers. In the final version the white plug will be covered by the enclosure, and the black heat shrink tubing will be included, this one is not shrunk. It may be better to just use black electrical tape to hold the 4 wire harness flat against the HMD. The Aux Buttons are recognized as a windows joystick and are programmed in DCS like any other controller.

I am putting more pics over at the discord showing different mounting options.

Thanks for asking,

Miles

Miles I received the parts today what do we use the usb battery checker and how. Also the rift s mount was a little different from the original mount I had. I swap the hms to the rift s mount since that’s the system I plan on using it on mainly I still have my rift cv1 until someone buys it. I know ou didn’t several videos on using the point controller but did you do one on installing the hardware on a rift s or any similar vr hmd?

Also are the 2 usb chargers w/o 5vt ? The two cables that plug into the FCU? Also they are two gray items between the FCU s and the hmd in your photo the first one that shows what you get, what are they it’s the one item/s that I don’t see and if you want I’ll send back the cables since I had them already I thought the chargers were something they plugged into. Everything else I received today was new I guess not knowing what everything is is causing the disconnect.

No problem, don't worry about sending anything back, consider them extras. In the pic below you can just see the double face tape on the top of the Rift and under each wing of the HMS.

As far as the grey foam blocks, that's an old pic. The PointCTRL website shows what comes in the current kits. That gray foam was for spacers before I made custom mounts for each HMD.

As listed. The chargers do not come with the 5 volt standard USB power supplies.

If your available tomorrow we can do a talk through calibration on discord with a screen share.

Thanks,

Miles

MilesdD, I went to install the hms on my rift s but there’s a sensor right there do I cover it up with the tape and hms or do I shift it to the side and leave the sensor open?

I have the Rift S, and from what Miles was able to figure, the sensor on top is only used for tracking touch controllers above your head.

So, for DCS purposes, you should be fine. If you play other Rift games, though, it’s possible you may have an issue.

PointCTRL does not require any software to be running on your PC. It is recognized as a Hid Mouse and soon a Joystick too. All processing is done on 3 onboard micro-controllers.

PointCTRL is definitely not plug and play as far as calibration goes. It takes a few times to get the concepts down. Once you have the concepts and procedure down, it's easy to set-up and calibrate.

The good news is, I am almost done with an interactive, and linked Audio Assist application that guides you through the menus and set-up process.

I hope to have the beta out any day.

Mariner where are you?!!!! I need my tester number 1.

Additionally, Thud, and others, with a low vertical resolution monitor coupled with the high vertical resolution of the Reverb have limited cursor movement vertically.

Mariner and FoxDelta have bought this up in the past, and I must have zoned out about. I am activity looking for a solution.

Thanks for the question,

Miles

Thanks for the answer. I also use a C49HG90 32:9 Monitor 50cm in front of My eyes for perfect Simracing use. The Question is, if PointCtrl will work on my Motionsimulator with not mutch Space in the Cockpit. I'm Playing around with Leap Motion these days for Cockpit Controls, but this is not easy to Setup with the Reverb...

MilesD I trimmed the tape from the opening in the hms bracket for the rift s which is what I figured you put it there for. Just remove the board and leave the mount senor still usable if needed mount solidly mounted

Excellent, That works or you can just to small pieces on the ears. PointCTRL documentation is lacking at the moment.

Update: I made a decision to slow production a bit, and focus on cleaning the documentation up, and getting the GUI out their to make things easier. I know there are a bunch of you waiting, and apologies, but I am just not happy with the current state of documentation and set-up process.

Thanks,

Miles
