Just like rpm-checking some machinery, you place a nice storbe in front of it, match the speed, and it will appear to be standing still, no matter the rpm, be it 10, 1000, or 9999999999999999, it will appear to stand still. Cameras shoot at 25-30 fps so the rotor speed is something like 25-30-ish revs per second. No magic or CGI involved. It does look cool, might be useful for in-flight damage assessment, just give the wingman a similar camera, and should the need arise he can look through the cam to see the cause of those horrible vibrations jumping between 5 places in 1/5th of a second :P

Those Mi-24 rotor disks are the crudest looking rotors I've ever seen, they just look like rectangular metal boards with too many rivets to be aerodynamic, yet they keep that piggy in the air. Now that is a mystery

I guess that's the russian stratagy. if it works, great, if it still works, looks cruddy, but costs alot less and you can make a ton of them, even better!

DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices

Bull. The Russians recovered anti-gravitational technology from a crashed UFO and reverse engineered it. They are testing it in the Hind because, the aircraft has a large enough cargo compartment to accomodate it, and it has the back up capability of the main rotor if there is a failure. How do I know this? Agent Molder told me, of course!!

The big question is, will this advanced technology be included in Black Shark?

well, it's awfully funny if it was accidental ;)

If you want a seriously good laugh, read through the comments posted along with those videos......... And my candidate "Things you'll regret you said one day" (You'll find this one under the "Hind UFO 2" video BTW)

Not that I'm an authority on this, but they make Harriers, which are planes that can take off vertically. I don't see why they can't make a helicopter that can stay up with out spinning the main rotor.

I just hope this guy never applies for a helicoptor pilot's licence!!! :pilotfly:

ok, it was photoshopped. Either that or it was turkey hunting season and that Hind sucked a massive gobbler up the intakes and the sudden loss of power (but sudden gain in turkey powers) made the hind float like a butterfly and sting like something...

Camera FPS issue, nothing else. Here are a couple of movies which I've shot myself that shows how "slow" are coaxial rotors and that they are indeed 'counterrotating'- i.e. spinning in reverse- with the blades' trailing edge in forward:)

Take-off:

In flight. OMG, are we going down?...:D

EDIT: BTW, absolute main rotor speed of the helicopters is between ~120 RPM(Mi-26) and ~400 RPM (Enstrom 280FX). The tail rotor of the classic layout spins at about 1000RPM(medium sized helicopter), the coaxial main rotor (Ka-32, Ka-50) drives at 272 RPM.
