Hi Alpen, the new SRS is asking for EAM coalition password or cant be added to Favourites, any idea?

Never heard of that. Ask Maverick, if it's something he has set up on his SRS. Or come to TS now! We're there.

ouch...

Blue scored ca. 40 AA kills alone, so that's ca. 40 aircraft losses for Red, while Red scored a little over 10 AA kills. That was decisive.

Had a lot of fun. We should try next tournament without Mistrals. Same teams.

Thanks to the blue guys for working days in planning what to do, and executing it at perfection. Coordination isnt possible without everybodys good will to cooperate. Again, team work was the key, not just a weapon...

Thanks to the 104 for another good afternoon (at least here).

See you next time!!!

Great fun and lots of action.

Great to see that the ECV training did pay off on getting into the AF as fast as possible.

That was our objective and even with a slow uh they guys where able to get there in the 10 minutes that hey did estimated.

Thanks of this it was easy for us in the gazelles to rearm and refuel non stop.

Thanks Alpen for organizing and the mission and Maverick and 104th for hosting and closing the server for this event.

On Red the confusion started right in the Briefing. Miscalculating everything. Devastating result.

That's why GCI is needed more than ever!

Next round will only take place if we have one GCI for each side. The two GCI guys will be not just reporting pictures and bogy dopes, but also coordinating the whole thing. They will be "moving" their helicopters anyway they see fit. Players will have to stick with the objectives assigned by GCI. GCI will be a huge factor if not the most decisive one.

The two GCI operators will have a seperate briefing 15 minutes prior to the public briefing.

EDIT:

Next time a training mission will be released to help pilots understand the scenario better. However, the training mission will not include all the details, but should suffice.

Tournament comment

First of all a big thank you to everyone involved in putting on the tourney. I look forward to the next one. A couple of things: 1. holding a briefing or providing a detailed briefing well in advance would give the opportunity for each team to gather for more than just a couple of minutes and develop a strategy. Whether each team takes advantage of the opportunity would be their decision On the red side I am not sure that any coordination was done between the lift ships and gun ships. 2.A GCI would definitely be a nice add. 3. limited manpad troops to be strategically deployed would add some the depth to the game. 4, MI-8 is big and cumbersome so at a definite disadvantage when trying to engage in Air to air with a huey or gazelle. However, its size gives it the advantage of being able to carry more troops...this advantage was taken away. Don't think it had any impact in this tournament due to our dismal performance...LOL...Thanks and looking forward to the next

It was fun, looking forward for the next Event. Thx Alpenwolf for doing this.

I like the Idea with an GCI-Player for each Side.Guess it will be great for Teamwork plus more Communication which is good for the Players to know what's going on.

And true, the Mistral Gazelle is quite Mighty, especially when you able to rearm nearby the Combatzone.

Any experience is experience it was fun to check how such setup will work. Thanks to all participators for finding time to gather around.

So I didn't fly Gazelle much before. After event I tried to throw stick to here and there and just see what will happen.

Here is the video (Notice that control authority still exist when I point nose 50-90 degrees up, means I can aim and shoot actually):

No more further questions your honor...

I took off in the Mi-8 as soon as humanly possible, having it all prepped for the "Go" call, where I'd just have to start my 2 engines and take to the air. I tracked too far north to begin with, trying to avoid that tank battle which was inconveniently placed between us and Senaki, while it seemed like Blue guys had a more or less straight shot. So they moved with the quickness and beat me to Senaki, which was the beginning of the end.

I knew coming into it that it was well stacked for Blue side. Shorter distance to Senaki, no tank battle in the way, artillery twice as far away from us as ours to them, not to mention the aircrafts and weapons themselves. Even the hueys have flex guns, which in the proper hands are devastating, and were used to great effect. Mi-8 does not hold its own as an A2A attack helicopter, and using it as one would have surely cost us more points than we gained.

So my team was there just to shuttle troops where they needed to go. When we found out there were no AA troops, that was another disadvantage to us, as we planned on placing lots of it around Senaki and our artillery sites. So that really just limited our utility to transporting troops to Senaki. But when Blue got there first, and were able to rearm there, like I said, the end was already being written, and there was nothing to do but grin and bear it, and keep trying to shuttle those troops to Senaki until endex was called.

Watching the stream its even clearer that we Mi8's were just the cannon fodder for the hueys and gazelles, which doesn't feel great, but its what I signed up for, and I definitely had fun operating under that pressure and adversity. Next time we will know to sign up for hueys instead (We are 229th after all) :smartass: With all the hindsight from this one, I can't wait to see what's in store for the next one!

A big thank you to Alpenwolf & the 104th for hosting & directing the tournament. I think alot of goals were achieved, including giving DCS Attack/Assault helicopters some much needed publicity. Hats off to you guys. o7

In response to some replies above:

The Huey pilots had the advantage of having flown in the first round. So they knew how to prepare. They trained and simulated the flight from Kutaisi to Senaki. Did that to get as fast as possible, and that they did. They had to fly 36 km, while the Mi-8's 38 km to reach Senaki. I flew my Mi-8 from Kobuleti and raced an AI Huey at its max speed (had external views on to confirm that) just to see if the tank battle taking place was such an obstacle. Well, I beat the Huey and got there 1.5 min earlier. You don't need to flank the tanks all that much. Keep 3 km west of them and you're good. I was flying at 280-290 kph with GUV pods only. No rocket pods. So yes, training was the key, while the Mi-8 pilots didn't have that.

Next time (if troops' insertion is included. Need to figure out a scenario for round 3 still) the Mi-8 will carry 14 troopers, while the Huey will be limited to 7 only.

Mistals are out (at least for round 3).

Deploying vehicles/sling loading cargo might be an option.

CSAR might be an option.

Was thinking about a night mission. But then no live stream/commentating will be avaible. And even if, viewers would see nothing, so streaming would be impossible.

Once I have a mission set up, I will release the file (excluding important details), so players can meet and train for the event. Especially work on their comms.

The breifing will be more detailed and maybe include more images.
