I use the normal CS6 Extended.

If you do the CC (Creative Cloud) then you have a month free trial.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I would recommend offline version CS6. CC is very good too if you accept such policy (subscription).

For task you want to do, even very old Photoshop will be really comfortable.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I think ED and 3rd parties are starting to use programs like Substance painter or Quixel SUITE to make their templates.

The GiMP devs need to update their software to be more compatible with PBR native software.

You can't use them for making stuff like liveries in DCS.

Both are a 3d painter tool were you import a model either in FBX or OBJ format to add textures.

Quixel plugs into Photoshop. Not sure about SP.

I use Quixel for my 3d models.

Substance Painter is standalone - so it runs on its own and isn't a plugin.

Haven't used Quixel 2 that much because it constantly crashes on me.

Also Substance Painter can be combined with Substance Designer.

So if you also wanna paint 3d meshes these tools are certainly worth a look.

For creating liveries you should be fine with Photoshop.

You'd just need to look up on the new PBR channels also used in DCS now.

I think there should be a guide somewhere in the forums.

I have no crashes [maybe 1 or 2] with Quixel 2 and I been using it for a few years.

The guide is here >> https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=193596 <<

Standard Photoshop will do just fine.
