Why does the Russian 21 default to a Serbian skin?

It's really annoying (no offence to Serbia).

 

Is there a way to tweak it so selecting a Russian 21 will automatically select a Russian/Soviet skin in the editor?

There is a reason behind that. The DCS module is more or less based on a real life Serbian MiG-21bis. One of the coders is/was an active pilot in the Serbian Air Force, flying MiG-21bis.

 

Russian/Soviet MiG-21bis has a bit different avionics package. The MiG-21bis SAU was an export variant and the version modeled in DCS.

I'm pretty certain you could sort that in the .lua settings. That'd require changing it every update, though.

I think it's because when the addon was released, Serbia wasn't even a country in dcs. Most addons have skins assigned per country, for mig 21 it's all skins for everyone.

Irony is main serbian fighter is MiG29, MiG21 is the apex fighter in Croatia.

And will be till we get F16 from Israel in 2 years time.

Actually there is a really simple answer to this question: The Serbian skin is the first in the list.

 

As there are no countries assigned to the skins, the MiG-21bis is available to all countries with all skins.

We left the liveries unassigned to specific countries to allow users to choose a livery that they like without being restricted.

It allows a lot of freedom when making missions :)

Also makes it easier to see all avalible liveries.
