Gogojuice
I found this regarding speeds for ram when I was researching. Skip to 22:25 for dim rank/ config target etc. Not sure if this is the same on all MB, but for Crosshair 7. There are lots of youtube videos that explain the benefit of faster ram for ryzen vs latency. Essentially what I took away from it was that that you will see a bigger difference if you have a better graphics card. 1080 and above. dburne
That chip was very unique. It could overclock like crazy and work for years. Mine ran at 450Mhz for three years before it started to fail. Life is a lot different now. Tolerances are tighter and performance outside of certain ranges is far less likely. Yep the Celeron 300a was my first PC build, had it at 450 Mhz as well and ran it for quite some time. BitMaster
Q) Dual rank vs single rank for AMD? (I assume this is why there are so many 32GB 4x8 kits for AMD?) Q) Will a quad channel kit work without drawbacks in a dual channel system? They should work. That's what you buy when you need all 4 slots populated in a 2-Channel Chipset rig. Or you put them in 4 of your 8 slots of a 4-channel rig, but it might be hard to get another 4 matching sticks at a later time, if one needs all 8 slots. The game is the same, it's just x2. The tighter, the denser and the faster they get, the faster you pull your hair and the more time you waste ! Best thing, you paid a fortune to have those problems. 3200 is the limit imho...and make sure you can GIVE THEM BACK if they dont run like hell ;) Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Asus 1080ti EK-waterblock - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus PG278Q 27" QHD Gsync 144Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
Django
I'm beginning to feel less confident with AMD as there are so few 32GB RAM kits. Really need to go for a CAS14 3200 kit which is going to be £400+. Needing higher priced RAM seems to offset the lower cost of the CPU! Seems like now's a good time to consider an Intel i7-9700K build? Seems like now's a good time to consider an Intel i7-9700K build? If you can't live without the absolute fastest speeds for all components then Intel is easier to get to where you want to be for a price. 2666 or 2933 with tight timings will benchmark about equal to 3200 with looser timing on Ryzen. Also do your homework on the new "9" series. Intel has been shipping golden samples to reviewers. It looks like a paper launch due to limited stock/availability and the chips are not universally hitting the high OC's at low voltages/thermals. You could end up paying more for guaranteed RAM speeds only to lose out on your anticipated CPU overclock.

Pilotasso
yes, 4. See my Sig. Several others hit this and even 3600 in some cases. What kits you got? High frequency with 4 requires kits with Samsung B-die IC's. For 3200 kits of SAMSUNG B die you can dare go up to 3400. For 3600 you can try every frequency possible that the memory controller can handle. Also Google Ryzen DRAM calculator 1.4.0.1. It does all your homework for you. EDIT: here you go: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/download-ryzen-dram-calculator.html Make sure you select the proper CPU and memory type and then hit XMP to upload your memory default timings into the tool and then it re-calculates everything for different frequencies. BitMaster
Take them back and get a proper Gskill FlareX kit, 32GB 3200MHz. That will boot and run. Gskill has a QVL for that kit, check if your board is listed by Gskill as compatible.
