The definitive confirmation of the vulnerability of the U-2 was when Lieutenant Gary Powers was shot down in the USSR skies during the last spy mission on the Soviet territory planned for the U-2. In 1962, immediately after the Cuban crisis, a specimen was also shot on the skies of Cuba. These episodes caused the U-2 to be replaced by the SR-71 Blackbird in the mid-1960s.
Kev2go Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 (edited) meh the U2 spy plane is too much of a niche ( never minding its proven vulnerability in operating in protected airspace since 1960) , and pure reconnaissance aircraft in general. even if Ed or a 3rd party were actually to develop a recon plane id much rather have a SR71, just because of its remarkably fast speed, and an ability to escape from threats be it interceptors or SAM, even if only ones from its haydays, and not more modern types. WinterH Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 On one hand, it is a very unique plane with unique challenges. On the other hand, though, it is very, very niche, and thus developers will probably shy away from such a module. However, now that we have SA-2, it is a must to have as AI :P Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
Vitormouraa Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I would absolutely love a U-2 module. Spending hours in the stratosphere, that must be fun :) SplashOneGaming Discord https://splashonegaming.com

Kang Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 combat ISIs? You mean CIA' founded terrorist groups :megalol::thumbup:;) Turkey is an invention of the CIA? Okay, enough banter and back to the topic: I agree it might be a bit too much niche indeed, especially since there is no proper mechanic in DCS as of yet for reconnaissance missions. Perhaps the road to get there would rather be introduce such a mechanic for the benefit of possible recon platforms already on the way, like an F-14 for example.
