You missed it by a few days. The thread has been removed by ED.

Sorry,

If you are looking for civilians boats, there was a mod made by Hawkeye60 that he posted a week or so ago. You had bunch of cool stuff here. Saddly, a claim that the models were not his forced ED to remove the thread.

P.S: Didn't have time to download this mod either.

Ah bummer

So because somebody complains, a great mod is removed? I wonder how many other mods are in the same situation. Also if anyone used anything from Eagle Dynamics, such as a cockpit, FM, or a bin folder, have they gotten permission?

This sim just got reduced in importance because if mod removal because of a complaint. IMHO

I have removed all of my Ship Mods from the download site, and ED appear to be slowly removing any subsequent references to them on here. I have written and e mail evidence to support every Ship Mod I have uploaded in the past, and I usually included that evidence it in the ReadMe just to be certain users knew where they came from and what licences and restrictions applied.

In 2 cases I corresponded at length with ED to clarify those approvals and they accepted both at the time, 1 Mod was made by another member of this site and he also confirmed his approval on here, so the current action appears to be somewhat randomly applied and without due diligence.

Such is life, their game their rules, onwards and upwards.

Will be adding fishing gear and hatches to the next batch but my main focus is updating HMS Hermes.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Intellectual rights are always a thorny matter. But they exist and are important. How would you like someone coming to your place, and getting into your wheels and driving off? In the eyes of the law, ownership is ownership. Unfortunately, it seems there is not much being done by ED to establish whether those rights have been wavered in this case, but leaning on the side of the originator seems to be the approach taken until proven otherwise. Such is life. I am sure once the facts are established, the mods will return.

When money is being charged, sure, you start to get into some sticky territory. That was not the case with any of the removed items, however, which are now numbering in the dozens. This was not the result of direct complaints from the owners of publicly available, free 3D models, or specific proof that an asset was in fact stolen but rather the absence of proof it wasn't. Respectfully, I think this guilty-until-proven-innocent approach is harmful to the molding community and a bit on the overzealous side.

Thanks joey45, your mods are most appreciated. Any chance of a couple of WW2 era merchant ships (e.g. Tramp Steamers, Colliers, Liberty Ships) when you are finished with Hermes? They would add significantly to the Normandy scenario.

Best regards,

Mich.

HMS Sandown M101 will be next or HMS Peacock P239. Both now in foreign service.
