I am considering buying a Oculus VR headset especially for DCS World. I just had a few questions. First, is the VR images presented in 3d? Second, can the headset be used without remote tracker? And lastly, should I wait until next year for next generation VR Headsets?

There's an entire VR section on the forum. BTW, I can't go back to using monitors after flying in VR for over a year and a half now.

Rift is fine and likely best value for money what you first need to consider is your hardware at the moment DCS VR requires a fair amount of CPU and GPU number crunching this will improve with future improvements in DCS code. Higher resolution HMD's typically require even more CPU/GPU number crunching power.

The Rift image quality in DCS is good, it looks to me a bit cartoony but the spatial perception you get from VR is brilliant especially if you fly helicopters it is a real game changer.

So if you don't mind what are your system specs?

Oh and if you haven't worked it out VR all the way.

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above.

Currently rolling with a Asus Z390 Prime, 9600K, 32GB RAM, SSD, 2080Ti and Windows 10Pro, Rift CV1. bu0836x and Scratch Built Pedals, Collective and Cyclic.

You might want to look for a used Samsung Odyssey on EBay. A lot of owners have upgraded to the Odyssey + and are selling the original for around $200. WMR doesn’t require a remote tracker and the Odyssey is by far the best offering with its higher resolution OLED screens.

I would sell you mine but my wife discovered Elven Assassin so I will probably be keeping it.

Yes the image is 3d.

For the rift you need at least one tracker looking at you.

Personally I find it awesome and can't go back.

It has a few drawbacks, and requires you to rethink the way you interact with the game, but IMO it is worth it.

About waiting for next year, no one can tell you you have to take the decision. There doesn't seem to be a perfect successor to current gen VR for the immediate future.

Q: is the VR images presented in 3d?

yes

Q: Second, can the headset be used without remote tracker?

No, but why would you not want head tracking?

Q: And lastly, should I wait until next year for next generation VR Headsets?

Don't wait, just get the best HMD (do your research) and a beefy system to drive it.

Second, can the headset be used without remote tracker?

last time i checked you could do that but dont expect to move your head in space, you will be limited to rotation

I would rather buy a samsung odyssey plus which is newer, better resolutuon and no need for external sensors for tracking, it uses internal sensors :)
