Just a thought. The Jester voice quality sounds a little out of place to me so far with what we have seen. I was thinking if you could run the speech through SRS it would sound more natural to the environment.

No, it should sound exactly like it sounds now, remember Jester uses an Intercom, basically a cable connection inside a plane. There is no static, interference, range degradation etc. like in a radio transmission!

You are still talking through a mic in a loud environment. When I hear aircraft comms between ATC and comm between cockpit crews they have a similar mic sound to me.

Easy with the exclamation points buddy! lol.

Yes, but that's already modeled. SRS simulates radio transmissions over UHF, VHF AM/FM and the typical range degradation in addition.

The difference between your experience may be Fighter Jets, unlike commercial plane headsets, have the mic inside the mask, so you have very little engine or environment sound when the mask is on. There is a very distinct effect from the mask though.

Yep agreed SRS is definitely not required it's not loud cos it's inside the oxygen mask,. Now the guys breathing can come through if he is breathing loud lol, especially under g, but it's an intercom not a radio.

His breathing would only come through if he is pressing the intercom button.

Depends in the Tornado it was voice actuated so if he was breathing hard it would start and I assumed that the F14 was similar, it may be a manual hot intercom which is way less convenient IRL.

The F-14 ICS is either PTT or hot, it's selected independently for both pilot and RIO.

If in PTT (Push To Talk) the pilot uses the coms hat on the right throttle and the RIO the left foot pedal button.

Thanks for the quick reply that kinda sucks or at least would do if I had to fly it for real, but explains some of the Natops.

Cheers

I would disagree. In all the planes I've been in the guy sitting next to me on the intercom always sounds noticeably better than ATC or other planes do on the radio.

The best radio VOIP in my opinion is ACRE2 for Arma 3. I think it models intercoms and radios quite well. The sound effects in SRS don't sound very realistic to me

Jester sounds good to me.

Having flown both small private aircraft and RAF aircraft with a facemask on, I can say that the mic in the facemask has a lot cleaner sound to it compared with a set of Peltor headphones with a boom mic.

Just don't heavy breath at your instructor :D

That's the problem. Guys would hang their masks and sort of half way hold it up to their mouth when they wanted to talk. The ICS picked up annoying ambient sounds. The F14 ECS was loud, so that didn't help, so much so that you could hardly hear the engines. Some guys turned it off on final so they could hear the engines for better power setting feedback.

I liked to leave it on and just walked the throttles for reference, I was sweating enough at night. :)

And no, walking the throttles on the TF30's didn't yaw the aircraft. Guys said that the GE's spooled so quickly that they did feel some yaw, so that technique wasn't optimum.
