SCHOOL Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) Hello, I am currently researching a stick to put in my pit. I was originally hoping to do a full extension but read that the Warbrd is not designed for extensions. I am also noticing that the VIRPIL stick is much longer than my CH so maybe the added length is enough. The website states this: Using Extensions with the VPC WarBRD Base While it is possible to use extensions on the VPC WarBRD base, it is primarily designed for non-extended use. Due to the large deflection angle it is possible that you may encounter clearance issues between the grip and the VPC Desk Mount. During certain maneuvers it could be possible to damage your grip by hitting the desk mount. The included cams and springs are also tailored for non-extended setups. Using any extensions on the VPC WarBRD is at the user's responsibility. Any damages caused to VPC devices (grips) by using an extension on the VPC WarBRD base will not be covered under warranty. There is no concern to the VPC WarBRD itself when using extensions. I am reading that the issue is overtravel damage to the stick. Not damage to the base or springs. Has anyone attempted an extension? Large or small? Thanks, SCHOOL Edited February 6, 2019 by SCHOOL
Seb71 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Initially they said no extensions with WarBRD base. Then they said only 50mm extension. There are a few people using extensions on a WarBRD base, even longer than 50mm. I haven't seen any reports about damaging the base by using extensions. The MongoosT-50CM grip is quite long. Comparable (in length) with a Warthog grip with a 40-50mm extension.
Wmacky Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 It's not just the VPC mount that's the issue. The increased travel may be an issue with hitting the seat, or your legs when cockpit center mounted.
SCHOOL Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 Thanks. I do have an ejection seat in the works. It will have the notched front so I may be able to dimension the cushion to limit travel. If there is anyone out there with an extension, please post a pic or info... School
Opy Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 (edited) Happened to be testing it out last night and took a pic. The full travel is huge, maybe 28cm between axis extremes at top of stick. Roughly 30 degrees from centre. I tried it between my legs and just kept hitting myself at about 80% pull back. If I were to mount it there, I think I'd raise the base 15-25mm to ensure leg clearance. Though you can just make it more sensitive, so physical 80% movement equates to 100% in game. As a side note, the cable extension I received with it (last week) is no longer a cable, but a solid rubberized length. The connector was also turned 90 degrees, which is fine with the loose cable of the Virpil flight sticks, but not good for the hard mounted Warthog stick connector. You can see it dwarfing the full sized keyboard and 24 inch monitor. Edited February 8, 2019 by Opy My initial guesses at measurements were outlandish. Now I'm using a tape measure.
Opy Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 (edited) And it is more like a 40mm than a 50mm extension. Edited February 8, 2019 by Opy
backstab Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 You guys need to stop building cockpits. Get VR. My cockpit is perfect. In about 2-4 years a reliable hand/finger system will come out and we will be able to push all the buttons and turn all the dials.
SCHOOL Posted February 21, 2019 Author Posted February 21, 2019 Stop building? Not in my blood. This cockpit was designed for eventual VR. All switches and buttons have a different feel to them. I can find all of them with my eyes closed. It will be perfect when the resolution is good enough for me. BTW, I run a VR department at work.... SCHOOL
Cibit Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 I just got my warbrd base a couple of days ago. I am using a 125mm extension with the base mounted on my wheelstand Pro. No clearance issues yet though I do use vr and am quite a distance from my desk. I can still reach it to manipulate my keyboard i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Cibit Posted March 10, 2019 Posted March 10, 2019 Hi its fine, I never let go of the stick as the springs would wobble when springing back. I will try with the heavier springs but it is fine atm. I have had to add a curve on each axis of 30 as the base is so precise it magnifies all inputs and a deadzone of 6 i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

In fact, these go hand in hand. And you still have to mount it somehow in front of your chair. SCHOOL Posted April 22, 2019 Author Posted April 22, 2019 I'm happy to report the WarBRD is working great with the 25mm extension in my pit. Perfect length for me. Now, Starting the ejection seat with cutaway cushion. SCHOOL
