Wrightie Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 (edited) Hello all, I'm a newbie to DCS, not to flight sims though. Around 10 years ago i used to play FSX although my usual aircrafts of choice were the PMDG 747 and MD-11. Work started to take over and my flight time got less and less so eventually sold my yoke and pedals. Then got rid of my FSX and the aircrafy too. In October last year i stumped up and bought a HOTAS Warthog and some rudder pedals. Also bought the Hornet, but primarily, as a 80s child it was the Tomcat that swung my decision to finally invest. The Hornet is great, very in depth like the PMDGs i was used to i'm learning a lot about flying and navigating it however, it's a filler until the real deal releases in the next few weeks My carrier landings are far from perfect, quite a long way actually but with each pass i get a little better. I have however developed a rather odd problem. When i catch a wire in the Hornet i'll come to a stop then the nose goes skyward... very baffling. I haven't seen it on any other videos but it happens almost every trap. Can anyone give any advice on why it happens and how to stop it please? ${1} Edited February 27, 2019 by Wrightie

Wrightie Posted February 27, 2019 Author Posted February 27, 2019 Are you using the brake? You should be but it looks like that could be the issue? I haven't been no, I've been landing then going to full mil power and backing off when I know I've trapped. Thanks for the tip Damzduro i'll give that a try

Thanks for the tip Damzduro i'll give that a tryDon't use the brake, ensure the brake axis is mapped correctly. CTRL+Enter shows the control indicator. Wiggle the pedals and see if the brakes show on the axis indications. If they stay on after releasing, you need to invert the brake axis' in the control setup. Many pedals have the brake axis reversed by default. Grrrr it should say ‘shouldn’t’ not should as in you ‘shouldn’t be using the brake’ but like you said your not anyway so that can’t be it, sorry for the confusion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wrightie Posted February 27, 2019 Author Posted February 27, 2019 That's worth looking at thanks Shagrat, although i'm Able to taxi without any problem so i think the brake axis is correct. I will double check though thanks.
Mav_CVW-66 Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 try to take your feet away from the pedals. maybe your wheelbrake is also assigned to a button or something in this video you are definitely applying Brakes!!
Wrightie Posted February 27, 2019 Author Posted February 27, 2019 Thanks Maverick, i do tend to rest my feet on the rudder pedals. I'll try taking my feet off for touchdown.
grunf Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Thanks Maverick, i do tend to rest my feet on the rudder pedals. I'll try taking my feet off for touchdown. As already mentioned, press RCtrl+Enter to bring up the controls indicator, to see whether you're braking or not.
Wrightie Posted February 27, 2019 Author Posted February 27, 2019 That was it Shagrat, I reversed the brake axis and landed with the nose staying flat.... something else happened which I haven't seen before either though. I caught the 3 wire, when I came to a halt and retracted the tail hook to taxi the wire stayed connected to the hook. I can't get rid of it no matter what I do. Still at least my nose isn't pointing skyward any more. Thanks for all your help guys, now to wait for the deck crew so they can untangle my Hornet
glen.a.williamson Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Arrestor Wire Stuck on Tail Hook To get the arrestor wire off of your tailhook, try going full power for a second or two. When you cut your engine, your plane should roll back enough to cause the arrestor wire to fall off your tail hook. (this couple of second burst actually should be part of your normal landing routine)
maths314 Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 If you're getting caught on the arrester wires it means you're not going full power on landing.
Bankler Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 I caught the 3 wire, when I came to a halt and retracted the tail hook to taxi the wire stayed connected to the hook. I can't get rid of it no matter what I do. The easiest way to force it to release is wiggling your nosewheel/rudder left and right a couple of times. I had huge problems with this a while back, before I found this workaround. Bankler's CASE 1 Recovery Trainer
JUNYFLY Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Hi I too was getting stuck on the wires. Finally I was able to get the settings . This is what I did. Go to 1) Controls 2) Axis commands 3) Rest your Rudder assignments to default Now Assign 1) Rudder = Axis Z 2) Left brake = Axis X 3) Right Brake = Axis Y Under Axis Assignments select 1) Left brake = Axis X and go to Axis tune. Dead zone =0 Saturation X& Y =100 Curve = Default There are three options Below ***Slider to be selected*** *** User curve to selected*** On the left you will see 10 boxes numbered from 0 to 100 . Select the box which reads 50 and change it to 100.( Move the on-screen button to the top of the window) 2) Right Brake = Axis Y (repeat the same as above) This should prevent you from getting stuck on the wires.
