aw33com Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) I was not able to put my Mavericks in IRMV mode. I figured out what bugs, bad documentation, and lack of knowledge causes issues for lots of us. Below I will show you how to fix the problem, what I was doing wrong, and how to use Mavericks correctly. Known thread (11 pages) with IRMV problem: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=206985&page=11 Problems that cause the issue: 1. Keyboard Mapping bug The binding for enabling IRMV mode and AWACS Calls is the same by default. LWin + U You have to fix this binding and restart the session. 2. Incorrect MPCD I was using (right) the incorrect MPCD for Mavericks. I read Chucks Guide only and never knew selecting the right MPCD will not work. The Razbam documentation is very buggy as well. Read 3 for more info. 3. Mistakes in Guides and Documentation Razbam official documentation is completely disconnected from the Harrier. It's written by a document writer who never verified anything. Same thing is with Chucks Guide. It is a good beginning, but the use of Mavericks is missing information in that guide. a. Bug number 1 in Razbam documentation: Maverick Video will not display on the right MPCD. It will display, but you won't be able to trigger the MPCD Mode. This confused me the most, since I was able to see the video I assumed I am doing it the right way. b. Bug number 2 in Razbam documentation: Mavericks will not be able to cool down unless you are in the air. You can cool them down on the ground, you can uncage them and enter MPCD mode. Can't fire. c. Incomplete way of firing Mavericks in Chucks Guide. Chuck does not distinguish the difference between Internal and External sensors in his guide. He only shows you 1 way of using them. Do not follow that guide for Mavericks. Most videos on YouTube are correct, so look it up there or follow my instructions below. How to Fire Mavericks in it's simplest form: Assumptions: Your keyboard binding is correct, and you are going to use LEFT MPCD. Mavericks have internal Cameras and do not require internal sensor (DMT/TV). 1. Cool down Mavericks. You can do this even on the ground. No need to be in the air as the documentation says. 2. Enter Air to Ground mode and enable all your firing switches. 3. Go to stores and enable Mavericks (do this on your LEFT MPCD). 4. Uncage (map uncage keys) the Mavericks (sends video from Maverick to your LEFT MPCD) 5. Enable IRMV Mode (this requires to map Sensor Select Forward). 6. Slew to target and wait for lock. 7. Fire This way you must uncage and enable each Maverick, but this is the simplest way of using them without the help of on board or external sensors (TPOD, TV) If you have any problems let me know. Razbam documentation and overall lack of any kind of proper guides is bad. This airplane has so many other bugs it's a nightmare if you do something out of order, and it's super easy to do it as everyone's guide is different. Bad, so bad. Ground this thing and fix the errors, or make better documentation. Running: Latest Open Beta. Edited March 11, 2019 by aw33com
Shadow_1stVFW Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Wait a minute. Are you not using the HOTAS controls? I have literally never had an an issue where I needed to change a binding. Nealius Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Same here, never any issues. The only time I've ever had issues with IRMAVs is user error, typically when I forget to SS forward.
Harlikwin Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Nice writeup. One thing, you say start the plane and cool the mavs, obviously you can only do this in the air as you note. aw33com Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 Nice writeup. One thing, you say start the plane and cool the mavs, obviously you can only do this in the air as you note. No no. You can do this on the ground even though the documentation says otherwise. Unless you misunderstood my word "start". I meant to say cold start. Sorry. Wait a minute. toilet2000 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 The fact that the Maverick displays on the right MPCD is a bug. It should never ever show on that screen, as the sensor wiring doesn't even go to the right MPCD. The Maverick cool down is reset whenever you change MFD page, whereas it should continue the cool down/alignment procedure once you start it, whether or not you change MFD pages.

Charly_Owl Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 (edited) Incomplete way of firing Mavericks in Chucks Guide. Chuck does not distinguish the difference between Internal and External sensors in his guide. He only shows you 1 way of using them. Do not follow that guide for Mavericks. Please explain in detail what exactly is incomplete or wrong. I can make the change. Is it just the redundant use of the DMT for the IRMV that bothers you? Mesha44 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 There is a training mission for this now, it is much more complete than what we have been getting in the past via U-tube, Chucks guide. Try it out.
moespeeds Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Not sure where the disconnect is here. You can heat up mavs on the ground, no need to do anything other than bring stores up on the left MPCD, then hit the IRMV OSB button up top. You'll briefly see the fuzing info on the ODU. Leave the stores page up and do not switch weapons and 3 min later you'll be ready. No need to switch HUD modes and can be done on the ground. To Fire: 1. Designate a target via TPOD or DMT 2. Uncage Mav 3. SS FWD until you see IRMV in the left MPCD 4. SS Down to designate 5. Pickle 6. Profit Seems like a lot of steps, but second nature once you do it enough. Took me some practice but now I barely think about it. The biggest mistake is not selecting IRMV mode with SS. Charly_Owl Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 There is a training mission for this now, it is much more complete than what we have been getting in the past via U-tube, Chucks guide. Try it out. I did try it out. The tutorial I did is almost a carbon copy of the IRMV DMT TV Mode training mission. I will add a note that the steps 8 through 12 to use the DMT are optional (however, they are still valid). Otherwise, I really fail to see how my tutorial is wrong. It isn't. At least according to Baltic Dragon's training mission. Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Chuck's Guides on Mudspike Chuck's Youtube Channel Chuck's Patreon
Harlikwin Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Chuck, FWIW I used your tutorial and it worked/works fine for me. The only real bug I ever encountered was the Mavs not going from STDBY to RDY after 3 minutes, and it was nearly impossible to replicate so I figured It was me. Maybe I have an old copy of your guide, has it been updated. I know the aircraft has gone through lots of changes.
Charly_Owl Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) Sorry, I never said you were wrong, I said the current tutorial is more complete. At the moment the tutorial is almost the same... word for word! Current version dates from 23/03/2019. If you have a version dated before 09/12/2018 it's very likely that the procedure is just plain wrong.
