WelshZeCorgi Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Any RL F-14 pilots ever get annoyed with how the TID is obscured by the stick in the neutral position? I wonder if it's mainly how weird TrackIR can get with small head movements when its sensitivity settings are high.
Banzaiib Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 They're adding the option to hide the stick in the next OB patch.

TheSauvaaage Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 From a design standpoint I hate it (just like navigation displays in older airliners like 737/757)... But from an operational point of view I dont see a problem because either you are checking a long range scan so you can comfortably look around or, if the situation intensifies you have the RIO. But I can only by using DCS VR, not a RL Tomcat :D

Eaglewings Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I am more looking forward to their "pilot's hands" update for immersive reasons ;)Got me curious now. What is the pilot hand and what will that do? TheSauvaaage Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Got me curious now. What is the pilot hand and what will that do? The shift-P command which shows Pilot hands on HOTAS, like in the F-18 or SU-27/33
TheSauvaaage Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 He is referring to the pilot body "Pilot body" makes it more obvious, sorry :D
Eaglewings Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Okay I get it. My imagination was running wide again. Thanks guys for clearing that out. On a second thought, would the hand on the stick obscure the TID display the more? Well there is alway the option to deselect the pilot body anyways. WelshZeCorgi Posted March 26, 2019 Author Posted March 26, 2019 I was just wondering if any RL tomcat pilots found it as annoying as I do. I will probrobly not remove the stick just to keep the "realism".

Lean forward. You had to lean forward to see the full HUD display. It is what it is, and I don't recall anyone in the Fleet whining about it. They'd be skewered and sent to fly COD's. groundedforlife Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 I'm told by a former F-14 pilot that it wasn't as much an obstruction as it is in the gaming world. It was apparently more visible because of the angle of the pilot's head look down
Knock-Knock Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 Been flying in both VR and on monitor, and in VR it really isnt a big deal. Easy to peak around the stick - usually have to zoom in too. But on the monitor with Track IR, entirely different, and stick is very much in the way. - Jack of many DCS modules, master of none. - Personal wishlist: F-15A, F-4S Phantom II, JAS 39A Gripen, SAAB 35 Draken, F-104 Starfighter, Panavia Tornado IDS. | Windows 11 | i5-12400 | 64Gb DDR4 | RTX 3080 | 2x M.2 | 27" 1440p | Rift CV1 | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind pedals |

HereThen Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 This reminds me of the discussions about the Formula one Halo. Drivers don’t even notice it in real life but on a 2D monitor in the game is annoying af. I must admit that in the F18 I had to get uses to it as well. I had the stick hidden in the beginning but not anymore. But there is no harm done if they make it like the F18. People who like it can have it visible, others can hide it.
