tstorey37 Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Kind of a question and a wish if it is not implemented already. So I take all the time to input the correct freq into the radio for landing at an airfield. I key the radio to call the ATC and report inbound, and the airfield I am heading for is not on the menu. Since I am tuned into the correct freq for the airfield, shouldn't the airfield appear on the menu? Here is an example I have had happen a few times. After messing around with the Carrier Battle Group, I am ready to return to Batumi. Climbing to a good altitude about 50 miles out with the radio tuned into Batumi ATC, I key the radio and all the ships in the CBG appear in the menu. No Batumi in the menu. What do you all think?
Kang Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 They might be hearing what you say, but technically your in-game pilot isn't talking to them. The list is sorted by distance, so it should be working alright if you are in reasonable distance to your target airbase. I do know your pain, though, sometimes it happens that you overfly a lot of FARPs and such and even a somewhat nearby airport gets shifted out of the list. But I'm not sure there is a better solution within the current radio system of DCS.
ex81 Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 I mostly contact the airfield at a distance of 20 NM. Never had any problem getting an answer. What goes up, must come down ! tstorey37 Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Let me be clear about this request. When I enter a freq into the radio, and then use radio (1 or 2), I would like to see the station I am calling appear as the F1 selection. It would be nice to contact an airfield 50 miles out and get a vector.
Wexler Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I think you can wait for ATC overhaul which is planned. I bet they will make it even better. tstorey37 Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 Thank you Wexler, I can definitely wait. I was just throwing this out there to see what you all think of the topic. I have heard of the ATC update, and I am looking forward to see what they come up with.
cailean_556 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 You have a point. If you're tuned to the (correct) frequency for your target airfield (or any airfield), it would be nice to have the airbase that corresponds with the tuned frequency set as your F1 regardless of distance, with the closest airfields after that being F2 and so forth. If you're too far away for radio calls, despite being tuned, you just get static. If you're close enough, you hear it. Happens when I fly missions over Vladikavkaz - I can still reach Vaziani on the radio, it's just faint - but Vaziani (which I am tuned to) is NOT the first station on the list. Typically Beslan or Nalchik is.
joey45 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 The list is by distance. You need to be closer before you contact. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. tstorey37 Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 Joey45, not being mean, but a little smart. We know the list is based on distance, hence the request to look into placing the "tuned" airfield in the F1 position.
mkiii Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 I thought the list based on distance is for "Easy comms", but if you weren't using it & tuned in to a specific frequency - you were talking to that frequency directly, therefore there should be some response. I tend to keep it on easy comms because reasons. In (the f-16 sim/mod that should not be mentioned), I like the way that the ATC responds to you if you are too far out - assuming you are in range in the first place. They just tell you that you are outside their airspace, and to contact them when within 20 or 30 miles (I forget).
discwalker Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 The list by distance is a big blockage if you fly past a carrier battle group or a multitude of farps. Su-27 is nothing to do with cruisers. GTX 1070 8GB, 16GB DDR3, W8.1 on SSD, DCS on another SSD
Kang Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Su-27 is nothing to do with cruisers. Well... you might use them for navigational assistance?
