RavenFrost Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 (edited) Hi Folks! don't know if it's been reported yet. since the latest OB-update, at the coldstart on carrier, jester doesn't say anything after ordering external-electrics and ground-air-supply. he's doing his job but he don't talk. played around with the ics-commswitch an restarted the mission or created a new in ME. nothing seems to work. WolfK33 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Ah, good that you narrowed down the problem to "carrier coldstart". Started the DCE Tomcats over the Gulf Campaign and encountered the problem. Thought it was the cold start and quickly checked with the coldstart mission on the land, there it worked. Didn´t get around to do more testing so far. Good to know it´s not just me
WolfK33 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I just placed a cold and dark Tomcat on the Stennis in the mission editor and everything worked ok several times. Then I started the DCE campaign mission again and Jester was quiet again. In both cases I tried "Startup" before as well as after connecting ground power and air supply. So it seems it´s not (only) the carrier cold start but something else.
grant977 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I have played with this further. It’s seems with dce missions if you do skip mission And get new mission he works on cold start. He is consistently quiet if I load a dce mission that was generated before I exited game and started it back up.
WolfK33 Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 After reading your post I did the following: Reset the campaign with "firstmission.bat" without DCS running, started DCS, reset and started the campaign there, started the mission -> Jester quiet Ended the mission, accepted the results and let a new mission be generated, started that mission -> Jester talks. So I can confirm grant´s findings so far:thumbup:
RedeyeStorm Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Can you check if the no talking Jester mission had four cats on deck? I noticed tahat with two cats Jester talks. With four silence. In that case there is also no sound for extending and retracting tge refuel probe. As soon asbyou clear the deck Jester starts talking again.
grant977 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I was just gonna post that too red eye I noticed it as well if four Cats on deck no jester voice.
lancerr Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Confirmed. 4cats no voice. He got shy. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
Eldur Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) He's not talking much generally. Regardless of where and how I start (hot/cold/AB/CVN). He never ever rated my landings once, doesn't call out the wire, in approach he usually tells me the altitude just once or twice and in air to air engagements he doesn't really like to talk as well, didn't do many fights yet, but I've yet to hear o'clocks from him. I'm really wondering if I'm having a different module than all the guys who put up videos on the Internet. The only thing I notice is that none of those has to live with like 20fps like me... could possibly bad engine performance make him omit some lines? All that goes for all versions from 28461 and up. First I thought it was just me flying situations where he just doesn't voice as much, especially A/G action, but having done a bit more A/A lately didn't change that behaviour... RavenFrost Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) tried it again on the carrier, 4 cats on the deck - Jester is silent. removed two cats... and hey, there's someone on the backseat who is talking. funny, cats scare him off. hornets, he don't care. i got landing callouts only two times, one at landing, the other at take off.... "oh, man the CO will bust our balls......again" the only thing I notice is that none of those has to live with like 20fps like me... could possibly bad engine performance make him omit some lines? 20fps sounds really bad, probably an other issue mods, hardware, dcs? IronMike Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 DCS unfortunately has a maximum sound limit, so in a busy airspace or in presence of too many sounds, this can lead to loss of sounds with Jester. Hence it could be that in the campaign you do not get the sound, but you do when you spawn single on a carrier. WolfK33 Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Thank´s for your answer IronMike. Might it be possible that Jester´s sound gets a higher priority so that for example when he has to say something a jet flying by in some distance get´s muted instead? But that would probably be an ED/DCS thing to implement I presume.
Eldur Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 20fps sounds really bad, probably an other issue mods, hardware, dcs? As it came up with 28461 I even downgraded once to an older version just to make sure what's causing the issue. And yes, it's DCS itself, simple as is. ED's fault there In my most recent flight with 29585 I had the impression it was a bit better though, but not as good as it was before. They're definately tuning their screws constantly ♦ I had Jester comment on my landing the first time as well, somthing like he didn't even notice at all. And that after I had to travel up 50nm with just 1200lbs left right from the deck. Had 700 left on shutdown and I know somewhere around 500-800 the engines just starve. So I came in steeper at idle power, killed my speed just before getting over the threshold, dirtying up in the last few seconds etc. Landed like a hero and that GIB made me even more proud of it DCS unfortunately has a maximum sound limit, so in a busy airspace or in presence of too many sounds, this can lead to loss of sounds with Jester. Hence it could be that in the campaign you do not get the sound, but you do when you spawn single on a carrier. You guys should knock on their table at least once every day until they lift that limit... This outright feels like a user login database with its name and password character length limited to 12 chars or something. So 1980s...
TerminatorLips Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Same problem here. Just bought the f14. And he really doesnt talk much. I can do whatever i want - no response.
gulredrel Posted December 30, 2019 Posted December 30, 2019 Bumping this up. Did some SP flights with some touch and goes and landings, carrier and land. On my first touch and go, Jester did altitude callouts, after that, he said the wire on the Stennis. After taking of and heading back to homebase, no altitude callout and no landing rating after successful touchdown.
